2014-01-31ARM: tegra: rebuild tegra_defconfig to add DEBUG_FSStephen Warren
DEBUG_FS used to be selected by COMMON_CLK_DEBUG, which was enabled by tegra_defconfig. However, this config option no longer exists, so no longer selects DEBUG_FS, and nothing else selects it either. So, "make tegra_defconfig" no longer enables DEBUG_FS in .config. Rebuild tegra_defconfig on top of next-20140424, while manually re-enabling DEBUG_FS. Reasons for removed entries are: - I2C_MUX: selected by MEDIA_SUBDRV_AUTOSELECT - DRM_PANEL: selected by DRM_TEGRA - NEW_LEDS: selected by many things; at least VT - LEDS_CLASS: selected by many things; at least VT - LEDS_TRIGGERS: selected by many things; at least VT - COMMON_CLK_DEBUG: no longer exists Signed-off-by: Stephen Warren <swarren@nvidia.com> Signed-off-by: Kevin Hilman <khilman@linaro.org>
2014-01-31ARM: multi_v7: copy most options from tegra_defconfigStephen Warren
multi_v7_defconfig was missing a large number of options that were in tegra_defconfig. This patch adds them. The changes fall into the following categories: * Enable more Tegra SoC options/drivers. * Enable more drivers for Tegra boards. * Enable more options that are useful for running distros. The patch removes a few lines as well, simply because those options are now selected by something else, and "make savedefconfig" removes them. I verified that the options appear in .config after "make multi_v7_defconfig". Recent changes to retry on ESTALE in linkat (commit 442e31ca5a49e398351b2954b51f578353fdf210) introduced a mountpoint reference leak and a small memory leak in case a filesystem link operation returns ESTALE which is pretty normal for distributed filesystems like lustre, nfs and so on. 2014-01-31perf buildid-cache: Check relocation when checking for existing kcoreAdrian Hunter
perf buildid-cache does not make another copy of kcore if the buildid and modules match an existing copy. That does not take into account the possibility that the kernel has been relocated. Extend the check to check if the reference relocation symbol matches too, otherwise do make a copy. 2014-01-31perf tools: Adjust kallsyms for relocated kernelAdrian Hunter
If the kernel is relocated at boot time, kallsyms will not match data recorded previously. That does not matter for modules because they are corrected anyway. It also does not matter if vmlinux is being used for symbols. But if perf tools has only kallsyms then the symbols will not match. Fix by applying the delta gained by comparing the old and current addresses of the relocation reference symbol. 2014-01-31perf symbols: Prevent the use of kcore if the kernel has movedAdrian Hunter
Use of kcore is predicated upon it matching the recorded data. If the kernel has been relocated at boot time (i.e. since the data was recorded) then do not use kcore. Note that it is possible to make a copy of kcore at the time the data is recorded using 'perf buildid-cache'. Then the perf tools will use the copy because it does match the data. 2014-01-31perf symbols: Fix symbol annotation for relocated kernelAdrian Hunter
Kernel maps map memory addresses to file offsets. For symbol annotation, objdump needs the object VMA addresses. For an unrelocated kernel, that is the same as the memory address. The addresses passed to objdump for symbol annotation did not take into account kernel relocation. This patch fixes that. 2014-01-31perf tools: Fix include for non x86 architecturesFrancesco Fusco
Commit 71ae8aac ("lib: introduce arch optimized hash library") added an include to <linux/hash.h> for setting up an architecture specific fast hash. Since perf includes directly the non-uapi kernel header, it cannot find <asm/hash.h> on non-x86 and thus prevents perf to be compiled on every architecture other than x86. The problem is the inclusion of <asm/hash.h> in hash.h that results in the following error originating from util/evlist.c: fatal error: asm/hash.h: No such file or directory This commit simply adds an empty <asm/hash.h> stub/file to fix the compile issue on non-x86 architectures. As perf does not use any of these new functions, it fixes the compilation and therefore seems to be the most appropriate solution to go with. 2014-01-31fs/super.c: sync ro remount after blocking writersAndrew Ruder
Move sync_filesystem() after sb_prepare_remount_readonly(). If writers sneak in anywhere from sync_filesystem() to sb_prepare_remount_readonly() it can cause inodes to be dirtied and writeback to occur well after sys_mount() has completely successfully. 2014-01-31alpha: fix broken network checksumMikulas Patocka
The patch 3ddc5b46a8e90f3c9251338b60191d0a804b0d92 breaks networking on alpha (there is a follow-up fix 5cfe8f1ba5eebe6f4b6e5858cdb1a5be4f3272a6, but networking is still broken even with the second patch). The patch 3ddc5b46a8e90f3c9251338b60191d0a804b0d92 makes csum_partial_copy_from_user check the pointer with access_ok. However, csum_partial_copy_from_user is called also from csum_partial_copy_nocheck and csum_partial_copy_nocheck is called on kernel pointers and it is supposed not to check pointer validity. This bug results in ssh session hangs if the system is loaded and bulk data are printed to ssh terminal. This patch fixes csum_partial_copy_nocheck to call set_fs(KERNEL_DS), so that access_ok in csum_partial_copy_from_user accepts kernel-space addresses. 2014-01-31ALSA: hda/hdmi - allow PIN_OUT to be dynamically enabledStephen Warren
Commit 384a48d71520 "ALSA: hda: HDMI: Support codecs with fewer cvts than pins" dynamically enabled each pin widget's PIN_OUT only when the pin was actively in use. This was required on certain NVIDIA CODECs for correct operation. Specifically, if multiple pin widgets each had their mux input select the same audio converter widget and each pin widget had PIN_OUT enabled, then only one of the pin widgets would actually receive the audio, and often not the one the user wanted! However, this apparently broke some Intel systems, and commit 6169b673618b "ALSA: hda - Always turn on pins for HDMI/DP" reverted the dynamic setting of PIN_OUT. This in turn broke the afore-mentioned NVIDIA CODECs. This change supports either dynamic or static handling of PIN_OUT, selected by a flag set up during CODEC initialization. This flag is enabled for all recent NVIDIA GPUs. 2014-01-31regulator: s2mps11: Fix NULL pointer of_node value when using platform dataKrzysztof Kozlowski
When platform_data is used for regulator (of_node of sec-core MFD device is NULL) the config.of_node for regulator is not initialized. This NULL value of config.of_node is later stored during regulator_register(). Thus any call by regulator consumers to of_get_regulator() will fail on of_parse_phandle() returning NULL. In this case (using platform_data and parent's driver of_node is NULL) set the config.of_node to reg_node from platform_data. 2014-01-31cifs: Fix check for regular file in couldbe_mf_symlink()Sachin Prabhu
MF Symlinks are regular files containing content in a specified format. The function couldbe_mf_symlink() checks the mode for a set S_IFREG bit as a test to confirm that it is a regular file. This bit is also set for other filetypes and simply checking for this bit being set may return false positives. We ensure that we are actually checking for a regular file by using the S_ISREG macro to test instead. 2014-01-31drivers: xen: deaggressive selfballoon driverBob Liu
Current xen-selfballoon driver is too aggressive which may cause OOM be triggered more often. Eg. this bug reported by James: https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/11/21/158 There are two mainly reasons: 1) The original goal_page didn't consider some pages used by kernel space, like slab pages and pages used by device drivers. 2) The balloon driver may not give back memory to guest OS fast enough when the workload suddenly aquries a lot of physical memory. In both cases, the guest OS will suffer from memory pressure and OOM may be triggered. The fix is make xen-selfballoon driver not that aggressive by adding extra 10% of total ram pages to goal_page. It's more valuable to keep the guest system reliable and response faster than balloon out these 10% pages to XEN. 2014-01-31xen/grant-table: Avoid m2p_override during mappingZoltan Kiss
The grant mapping API does m2p_override unnecessarily: only gntdev needs it, for blkback and future netback patches it just cause a lock contention, as those pages never go to userspace. Therefore this series does the following: - the original functions were renamed to __gnttab_[un]map_refs, with a new parameter m2p_override - based on m2p_override either they follow the original behaviour, or just set the private flag and call set_phys_to_machine - gnttab_[un]map_refs are now a wrapper to call __gnttab_[un]map_refs with m2p_override false - a new function gnttab_[un]map_refs_userspace provides the old behaviour It also removes a stray space from page.h and change ret to 0 if XENFEAT_auto_translated_physmap, as that is the only possible return value there. v2: - move the storing of the old mfn in page->index to gnttab_map_refs - move the function header update to a separate patch v3: - a new approach to retain old behaviour where it needed - squash the patches into one v4: - move out the common bits from m2p* functions, and pass pfn/mfn as parameter - clear page->private before doing anything with the page, so m2p_find_override won't race with this v5: - change return value handling in __gnttab_[un]map_refs - remove a stray space in page.h - add detail why ret = 0 now at some places v6: - don't pass pfn to m2p* functions, just get it locally Signed-off-by: Zoltan Kiss <zoltan.kiss@citrix.com> Suggested-by: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> Acked-by: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> Acked-by: Stefano Stabellini <stefano.stabellini@eu.citrix.com> Signed-off-by: Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk <konrad.wilk@oracle.com>

2014-01-31mm: slub: work around unneeded lockdep warningDave Hansen
The slub code does some setup during early boot in early_kmem_cache_node_alloc() with some local data. There is no possible way that another CPU can see this data, so the slub code doesn't unnecessarily lock it. However, some new lockdep asserts check to make sure that add_partial() _always_ has the list_lock held. Just add the locking, even though it is technically unnecessary. 2014-01-31mm: sl[uo]b: fix misleading commentsDave Hansen
On x86, SLUB creates and handles <=8192-byte allocations internally. It passes larger ones up to the allocator. Saying "up to order 2" is, at best, ambiguous. Is that order-1? Or (order-2 bytes)? Make it more clear. SLOB commits a similar sin. It *handles* page-size requests, but the comment says that it passes up "all page size and larger requests". SLOB also swaps around the order of the very-similarly-named KMALLOC_SHIFT_HIGH and KMALLOC_SHIFT_MAX #defines. Make it consistent with the order of the other two allocators. 2014-01-31arm64: mm: Introduce PTE_WRITESteve Capper
We have the following means for encoding writable or dirty ptes: PTE_DIRTY PTE_RDONLY !pte_dirty && !pte_write 0 1 !pte_dirty && pte_write 0 1 pte_dirty && !pte_write 1 1 pte_dirty && pte_write 1 0 So we can't distinguish between writable clean ptes and read only ptes. This can cause problems with ptes being incorrectly flagged as read only when they are writable but not dirty. This patch introduces a new software bit PTE_WRITE which allows us to correctly identify writable ptes. PTE_RDONLY is now only clear for valid ptes where a page is both writable and dirty.
