2011-01-31drm: Don't switch fb when disabling an outputChris Wilson
In drm_crtc_helper_set_config, we call drm_crtc_helper_set_mode which may return early and do no operation if the crtc is to be disabled. In this case we merrily swap to the new fb, discarding the old_fb believing that it has been cleaned up. However, due to the early return, the old_fb was not presented to the backend for correct reaping, and nor was the new one - which is about to be reaped via the drm_helper_disable_unused_functions(), leading to incorrect refcounting of the pinned objects. 2011-01-24drm/i915: Use consistent mappings for OpRegion between ACPI and i915Michael Karcher
The opregion is a shared memory region between ACPI and the graphics driver. As the ACPI mapping has been changed to cachable in commit 6d5bbf00d251cc73223a71422d69e069dc2e0b8d, mapping the intel opregion non-cachable now fails. As no bus-master hardware is involved in the opregion, cachable map should do no harm. Tested on a Fujitsu Lifebook P8010. BUILD_BUG_ON used to use the optimizer to do code elimination or fail at link time; it was changed to first the size of a negative array (a nicer compile time error), then (in 8c87df457cb58fe75b9b893007917cf8095660a0) to a bitfield. This forced us to change some non-constant cases to MAYBE_BUILD_BUG_ON(); as Jan points out in that commit, it didn't work as intended anyway. bitfields: needs a literal constant at parse time, and can't be put under "if (__builtin_constant_p(x))" for example. negative array: can handle anything, but if the compiler can't tell it's a constant, silently has no effect. link time: breaks link if the compiler can't determine the value, but the linker output is not usually as informative as a compiler error. If we use the negative-array-size method *and* the link time trick, we get the ability to use BUILD_BUG_ON() under __builtin_constant_p() branches, and maximal ability for the compiler to detect errors at build time. 2011-01-24module: show version information for built-in modules in sysfsDmitry Torokhov
Currently only drivers that are built as modules have their versions shown in /sys/module/<module_name>/version, but this information might also be useful for built-in drivers as well. This especially important for drivers that do not define any parameters - such drivers, if built-in, are completely invisible from userspace. This patch changes MODULE_VERSION() macro so that in case when we are compiling built-in module, version information is stored in a separate section. Kernel then uses this data to create 'version' sysfs attribute in the same fashion it creates attributes for module parameters. commit 3f0d3d016d89a5efb8b926d4707eb21fa13f3d27 adds a check for PNP device id to the common tpm_tis_init() function, which in some cases (force=1) will be called without the device being a member of a pnp_dev. Oopsing and panics ensue. Move the test up to before the call to tpm_tis_init(), since it just modifies a global variable anyway. If duration variable value is 0 at this point, it's because chip->vendor.duration wasn't filled by tpm_get_timeouts() yet. This patch sets then the lowest timeout just to give enough time for tpm_get_timeouts() to further succeed. This fix avoids long boot times in case another entity attempts to send commands to the TPM when the TPM isn't accessible. 2011-01-23drm/i915: Recognise non-VGA display devicesChris Wilson
Starting with SandyBridge (though possible with earlier hacked BIOSes), the BIOS may initialise the IGFX as secondary to a discrete GPU. Prior, it would simply disable the integrated GPU. So we adjust our PCI class mask to match any DISPLAY_CLASS device. In such a configuration, the IGFX is not a primary VGA controller and so should not take part in VGA arbitration, and the error return from vga_client_register() is expected. 2011-01-21xen: p2m: correctly initialize partial p2m leafStefan Bader
After changing the p2m mapping to a tree by commit 58e05027b530ff081ecea68e38de8d59db8f87e0 xen: convert p2m to a 3 level tree and trying to boot a DomU with 615MB of memory, the following crash was observed in the dump: kernel direct mapping tables up to 26f00000 @ 1ec4000-1fff000 BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at (null) IP: [<c0107397>] xen_set_pte+0x27/0x60 *pdpt = 0000000000000000 *pde = 0000000000000000 Adding further debug statements showed that when trying to set up pfn=0x26700 the returned mapping was invalid. pfn=0x266ff calling set_pte(0xc1fe77f8, 0x6b3003) pfn=0x26700 calling set_pte(0xc1fe7800, 0x3) Although the last_pfn obtained from the startup info is 0x26700, which should in turn not be hit, the additional 8MB which are added as extra memory normally seem to be ok. This lead to looking into the initial p2m tree construction, which uses the smaller value and assuming that there is other code handling the extra memory. When the p2m tree is set up, the leaves are directly pointed to the array which the domain builder set up. But if the mapping is not on a boundary that fits into one p2m page, this will result in the last leaf being only partially valid. And as the invalid entries are not initialized in that case, things go badly wrong. I am trying to fix that by checking whether the current leaf is a complete map and if not, allocate a completely new page and copy only the valid pointers there. This may not be the most efficient or elegant solution, but at least it seems to allow me booting DomUs with memory assignments all over the range.
