2014-01-18ktest: Add BISECT_TRIES to bisect testSteven Rostedt (Red Hat)
For those cases that it takes several tries to hit a bug, it would be useful for ktest.pl to try a test multiple times before it considers the test as a pass. To accomplish this, BISECT_TRIES ktest config option has been added. It is default to one, as most of the time a bisect only needs to try a test once. But the user can now up this to make ktest run a given test multiple times. The first failure that is detected will set a bisect bad. It only repeats on success. Note, as with all race bugs, there's no guarantee that if it succeeds, it is really a good bisect. But it helps in case the bug is somewhat reliable. You can set BISECT_TRIES to zero, and all tests will be considered good, unless you also set BISECT_MANUAL. Suggested-by: "Paul E. 2014-01-17s390/bpf,jit: fix 32 bit divisions, use unsigned divide instructionsHeiko Carstens
The s390 bpf jit compiler emits the signed divide instructions "dr" and "d" for unsigned divisions. This can cause problems: the dividend will be zero extended to a 64 bit value and the divisor is the 32 bit signed value as specified A or X accumulator, even though A and X are supposed to be treated as unsigned values. The divide instrunctions will generate an exception if the result cannot be expressed with a 32 bit signed value. This is the case if e.g. the dividend is 0xffffffff and the divisor either 1 or also 0xffffffff (signed: -1). To avoid all these issues simply use unsigned divide instructions. Additionally this code now has a race condition. Replace it with a much simpler variant, which just scans the address list when duplicate address detection completes, to check if this is the first valid link local address and send RS and MLD reports then. 2014-01-17tcp: metrics: Avoid duplicate entries with the same destination-IPChristoph Paasch
Because the tcp-metrics is an RCU-list, it may be that two soft-interrupts are inside __tcp_get_metrics() for the same destination-IP at the same time. If this destination-IP is not yet part of the tcp-metrics, both soft-interrupts will end up in tcpm_new and create a new entry for this IP. So, we will have two tcp-metrics with the same destination-IP in the list. This patch checks twice __tcp_get_metrics(). First without holding the lock, then while holding the lock. 2014-01-17kernfs: associate a new kernfs_node with its parent on creationTejun Heo
Once created, a kernfs_node is always destroyed by kernfs_put(). Since ba7443bc656e ("sysfs, kernfs: implement kernfs_create/destroy_root()"), kernfs_put() depends on kernfs_root() to locate the ino_ida. kernfs_root() in turn depends on kernfs_node->parent being set for !dir nodes. This means that kernfs_put() of a !dir node requires its ->parent to be initialized. This leads to oops when a newly created !dir node is destroyed without going through kernfs_add_one() or after failing kernfs_add_one() before ->parent is set. kernfs_root() invoked from kernfs_put() will try to dereference NULL parent. Fix it by moving parent association to kernfs_new_node() from kernfs_add_one(). kernfs_new_node() now takes @parent instead of @root and determines the root from the parent and also sets the new node's parent properly. @parent parameter is removed from kernfs_add_one(). As there's no parent when creating the root node, __kernfs_new_node() which takes @root as before and doesn't set the parent is used in that case. This ensures that a kernfs_node in any stage in its life has its parent associated and thus can be put. If a new callchain branch doesn't match a single entry of the node that it is given against comparison in append_chain(), then the cursor is expected to be at the same position as it was before the comparison loop. As such, there is no need to restore the cursor position on exit in case of non matching branches. 2014-01-17perf callchain: Spare double comparison of callchain first entryFrederic Weisbecker
When a new callchain child branch matches an existing one in the rbtree, the comparison of its first entry is performed twice: 1) From append_chain_children() on branch lookup 2) If 1) reports a match, append_chain() then compares all entries of the new branch against the matching node in the rbtree, and this comparison includes the first entry of the new branch again. Lets shortcut this by performing the whole comparison only from append_chain() which then returns the result of the comparison between the first entry of the new branch and the iterating node in the rbtree. If the first entry matches, the lookup on the current level of siblings stops and propagates to the children of the matching nodes. This results in less comparisons performed by the CPU. 2014-01-16perf tools: Do proper comm override error handlingFrederic Weisbecker
The comm overriding API ignores memory allocation failures by silently keeping the previous and out of date comm. As a result, the user may get buggy events without ever being notified about the problem and its source. Lets start to fix this by propagating the error from the API. Not all callers may be doing proper error handling on comm set yet but this is the first step toward it. With the introduction of sched_attr::sched_nice we need to check if we've got permission to actually change the nice value. Daniel found that can_nice() would always fail; and upon inspection it turns out that can_nice() only tests to see if we can lower the nice value, but it doesn't validate if we're lowering or not. Therefore amend the test to only call can_nice() when we lower the nice value. 2014-01-16futexes: Fix futex_hashsize initializationHeiko Carstens
"futexes: Increase hash table size for better performance" introduces a new alloc_large_system_hash() call. alloc_large_system_hash() however may allocate less memory than requested, e.g. limited by MAX_ORDER. Hence pass a pointer to alloc_large_system_hash() which will contain the hash shift when the function returns. Afterwards correctly set futex_hashsize. Fixes a crash on s390 where the requested allocation size was 4MB but only 1MB was allocated.
