2012-10-13ARM: config: sort select statements alphanumericallyRussell King
As suggested by Andrew Morton: This is a pet peeve of mine. Any time there's a long list of items (header file inclusions, kconfig entries, array initalisers, etc) and someone wants to add a new item, they *always* go and stick it at the end of the list. Guys, don't do this. Either put the new item into a randomly-chosen position or, probably better, alphanumerically sort the list. lets sort all our select statements alphanumerically. This commit was created by the following perl: while (<>) { while (/\\\s*$/) { $_ .= <>; } undef %selects if /^\s*config\s+/; if (/^\s+select\s+(\w+).*/) { if (defined($selects{$1})) { if ($selects{$1} eq $_) { print STDERR "Warning: removing duplicated $1 entry\n"; } else { print STDERR "Error: $1 differently selected\n". "\tOld: $selects{$1}\n". "\tNew: $_\n"; exit 1; } } $selects{$1} = $_; next; } if (%selects and (/^\s*$/ or /^\s+help/ or /^\s+---help---/ or /^endif/ or /^endchoice/)) { foreach $k (sort (keys %selects)) { print "$selects{$k}"; } undef %selects; } print; } if (%selects) { foreach $k (sort (keys %selects)) { print "$selects{$k}"; } } It found two duplicates: Warning: removing duplicated S5P_SETUP_MIPIPHY entry Warning: removing duplicated HARDIRQS_SW_RESEND entry and they are identical duplicates, hence the shrinkage in the diffstat of two lines. We have four testers reporting success of this change (Tony, Stephen, Linus and Sekhar.) 2012-03-30ARM: fix builds due to missing <asm/system_misc.h> includesOlof Johansson
This does a sweeping change fixing up all the missing system_misc.h and system_info.h includes from the system.h split-up change. These were the ones I came across when building all defconfigs in arch/arm/configs, there might be more but they lack adequate build coverage to be easily caught. I'm expecting to get a lot of these piecemeal by each maintainer, so we might just as well do one sweeping change to get them all at once. Remove the now empty arch_reset() from all the mach/system.h includes, and remove its callsite. Remove arm_machine_restart() as this function no longer does anything useful. For samsung platforms, remove the include of mach/system-reset.h and plat/system-reset.h from their respective mach/system.h headers as these just define their arch_reset functions. 2010-10-01ARM: do not define VMALLOC_END relative to PAGE_OFFSETNicolas Pitre
VMALLOC_END is supposed to be an absolute value, while PAGE_OFFSET may vary depending on the selected user:kernel memory split mode through CONFIG_VMSPLIT_*. In fact, the goal of moving PAGE_OFFSET down is to accommodate more directly addressed RAM by the kernel below the vmalloc area, and having VMALLOC_END move along PAGE_OFFSET is rather against the very reason why PAGE_OFFSET can be moved in the first place. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-03-19[ARM] pass reboot command line to arch_reset()Russell King
OMAP wishes to pass state to the boot loader upon reboot in order to instruct it whether to wait for USB-based reflashing or not. There is already a facility to do this via the reboot() syscall, except we ignore the string passed to machine_restart(). This patch fixes things to pass this string to arch_reset(). This means that we keep the reboot mode limited to telling the kernel _how_ to perform the reboot which should be independent of what we request the boot loader to do. 2008-11-30[ARM] Ensure that both MAX_DMA_ADDRESS and ISA_DMA_THRESHOLD are definedRussell King
Both of these symbols should be defined by a platform, or neither should be defined. Ensure that all platforms conform. Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2008-11-30[ARM] Add a common typesafe __io implementationRussell King
As Al did for Versatile in 2ad4f86b60b649fd7428265c08d73a3bd360c81b, add a typesafe __io implementation for platforms to use. Convert platforms to use this new simple typesafe implementation. Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2008-11-29[ARM] Rename ISA mach/dma.h header to mach/isa-dma.hRussell King
This avoids confusion with platform specific DMA implementations in mach/dma.h Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2008-11-29[ARM] fix constant values of MAX_DMA_ADDRESSRussell King
Since 8d5796d2ec6b5a4e7a52861144e63af438d6f8f7, we have allowed PAGE_OFFSET to be configurable, so a constant virtual address for MAX_DMA_ADDRESS is buggy. It should be defined in terms of PAGE_OFFSET rather than a constant virtual address. Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2008-11-29[ARM] move MAX_DMA_ADDRESS to mach/memory.hRussell King
Move the definition of MAX_DMA_ADDRESS from mach/dma.h to mach/memory.h, thereby placing it along side its relative, ISA_DMA_THRESHOLD. Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2008-11-28[ARM] h720x: avoid polluting the kernel's namespaceRussell King
Avoid unnecessarily pollution of the kernel's namespace by avoiding mach/hardware.h in mach/io.h. Include this header file where necessary. Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2008-11-28[ARM] remove a common set of __virt_to_bus definitionsNicolas Pitre
Let's provide an overridable default instead of having every machine class define __virt_to_bus and __bus_to_virt to the same thing. What most platforms are using is bus_addr == phys_addr so such is the default. One exception is ebsa110 which has no DMA what so ever, so the actual definition is not important except only for proper compilation. Also added a comment about the special footbridge bus translation. Let's also remove comments alluding to set_dma_addr which is not (and should not) be commonly used.
