2008-09-01avr32: pm_standby low-power ram bug fixHumphrey Bucknell
The value stored into the SDRAMC LPR register should be the current value of the register with the Self-refresh value set in the lower bit field. The bug involved only the Self-refresh value being written to the register, thus over writing any low-power ram settings. 2008-09-01avr32: Fix lockup after Java stack underflow in user modeHaavard Skinnemoen
When using the Java Extension Module hardware, a Java stack underflow or overflow trap may cause the system to enter an infinite exception loop. Although there's no kernel support for the Java hardware yet, we need to be able to recover from this situation and keep the system running. This patch adds code to detect and fixup this situation in the critical exception handler and terminate the faulting process. We may have to rethink how to handle this more gracefully when the necessary kernel support for hardware-accelerated Java is added. 2008-08-08avr32: Reduce DataFlash bus speed to 8 MHz on ATNGW100Haavard Skinnemoen
Doing this in combination with "atmel_spi: fix hang due to missed interrupt" appears to eliminate the overruns I'm seeing when using JFFS2-on-DataFlash as /usr filesystem on the ATNGW100. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-08-08avr32: Update defconfigsHaavard Skinnemoen
Enable power management, DMA and MMC on all boards except ATSTK1004, and add defconfig for the new ATSTK1006 board with NAND flash, UBI and UBIFS enabled as well. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-08-08avr32: Clean up HMATRIX codeHaavard Skinnemoen
Introduce a few helper functions for HMATRIX configuration and clean up the register definitions. Also add definitions for the HMATRIX master and slave IDs on the AT32AP700x chips. Also make the definitions in hmatrix.h available to board code by moving it to <mach/hmatrix.h> Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-08-08avr32: Add MMIO address definitions for certain controllersHaavard Skinnemoen
Hardcoded MMIO base addresses are used a few places throughout the platform code. Move these into the chip-specific header file so that adding support for new chips becomes a bit easier. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-08-08avr32: Introduce <mach/chip.h>Haavard Skinnemoen
This file includes the appropriate chip-specific header with MMIO, IRQ and GPIO definitions used by the platform code. It may also be used to provide inline GPIO accessors for drivers that are willing to sacrifice portability for faster bitbanging. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-08-08avr32: Remove include/asm-avr32/arch-at32apHaavard Skinnemoen
Since all users have been converted over to use <mach/foo.h>, there's no need for the arch-at32ap directory and associated symlink anymore. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-08-05avr32: Use <mach/foo.h> instead of <asm/arch/foo.h>Haavard Skinnemoen
Update all avr32-specific files to use the new platform-specific header locations. Drivers shared with ARM are left alone for now. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-08-05avr32: Introduce arch/avr32/mach-*/include/machHaavard Skinnemoen
Add arch/avr32/mach-*/include to include search path and copy all the files from include/asm/arch there. The old files will be removed once ARM does the same change and all common drivers are converted. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>

2008-07-27avr32: some mmc/sd cleanupsDavid Brownell
Minor cleanups for the MMC/SD support on avr32: - Make at32_add_device_mci() properly initialize "missing" platform data ... so boards like STK1002 won't try GPIO 0. - Switch over to gpio_is_valid() instead of testing for only one designated value. - Provide STK1002 platform data for the unlikely case that switches are set so first Ethernet controller isn't in use. (That's the only way to get card detect and writeprotect switch sensing on the STK1000.) And get rid of one "unused variable" warning. 2008-07-26avr32: use generic show_mem()Johannes Weiner
Remove arch-specific show_mem() in favor of the generic version. This also removes the following redundant information display: - free pages, printed by show_free_areas() - pages in slabs, printed by show_free_areas() - pages in swapcache, printed by show_swap_cache_info() where show_mem() calls show_free_areas(), which calls show_swap_cache_info(). 2008-07-25gpiolib: allow user-selectionMichael Buesch
This patch adds functionality to the gpio-lib subsystem to make it possible to enable the gpio-lib code even if the architecture code didn't request to get it built in. The archtitecture code does still need to implement the gpiolib accessor functions in its asm/gpio.h file. This patch adds the implementations for x86 and PPC. With these changes it is possible to run generic GPIO expansion cards on every architecture that implements the trivial wrapper functions. Support for more architectures can easily be added. 2008-07-25gpio: sysfs interfaceDavid Brownell
This adds a simple sysfs interface for GPIOs. /sys/class/gpio /export ... asks the kernel to export a GPIO to userspace /unexport ... to return a GPIO to the kernel /gpioN ... for each exported GPIO #N /value ... always readable, writes fail for input GPIOs /direction ... r/w as: in, out (default low); write high, low /gpiochipN ... for each gpiochip; #N is its first GPIO /base ... (r/o) same as N /label ... (r/o) descriptive, not necessarily unique /ngpio ... (r/o) number of GPIOs; numbered N .. N+(ngpio - 1) GPIOs claimed by kernel code may be exported by its owner using a new gpio_export() call, which should be most useful for driver debugging. Such exports may optionally be done without a "direction" attribute. Userspace may ask to take over a GPIO by writing to a sysfs control file, helping to cope with incomplete board support or other "one-off" requirements that don't merit full kernel support: echo 23 > /sys/class/gpio/export ... will gpio_request(23, "sysfs") and gpio_export(23); use /sys/class/gpio/gpio-23/direction to (re)configure it, when that GPIO can be used as both input and output. echo 23 > /sys/class/gpio/unexport ... will gpio_free(23), when it was exported as above The extra D-space footprint is a few hundred bytes, except for the sysfs resources associated with each exported GPIO. The additional I-space footprint is about two thirds of the current size of gpiolib (!). Since no /dev node creation is involved, no "udev" support is needed. Related changes: * This adds a device pointer to "struct gpio_chip". When GPIO providers initialize that, sysfs gpio class devices become children of that device instead of being "virtual" devices. * The (few) gpio_chip providers which have such a device node have been updated. * Some gpio_chip drivers also needed to update their module "owner" field ... for which missing kerneldoc was added. * Some gpio_chips don't support input GPIOs. Those GPIOs are now flagged appropriately when the chip is registered. Based on previous patches, and discussion both on and off LKML. A Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-gpio update is ready to submit once this merges to mainline. 2008-07-25avr32: allow system timer to share interrupt to make OProfile workVoss, Nikolaus
The following patch allows the avr32_comparator interrupt to be shared. This is necessary as the avr32 oprofile driver shares the irq group 0 with the timer. 2008-07-24PAGE_ALIGN(): correctly handle 64-bit values on 32-bit architecturesAndrea Righi
On 32-bit architectures PAGE_ALIGN() truncates 64-bit values to the 32-bit boundary. For example: u64 val = PAGE_ALIGN(size); always returns a value < 4GB even if size is greater than 4GB. The problem resides in PAGE_MASK definition (from include/asm-x86/page.h for example): #define PAGE_SHIFT 12 #define PAGE_SIZE (_AC(1,UL) << PAGE_SHIFT) #define PAGE_MASK (~(PAGE_SIZE-1)) ... #define PAGE_ALIGN(addr) (((addr)+PAGE_SIZE-1)&PAGE_MASK) The "~" is performed on a 32-bit value, so everything in "and" with PAGE_MASK greater than 4GB will be truncated to the 32-bit boundary. Using the ALIGN() macro seems to be the right way, because it uses typeof(addr) for the mask. Also move the PAGE_ALIGN() definitions out of include/asm-*/page.h in include/linux/mm.h. 2008-07-24mm: drop unneeded pgdat argument from free_area_init_node()Johannes Weiner
free_area_init_node() gets passed in the node id as well as the node descriptor. This is redundant as the function can trivially get the node descriptor itself by means of NODE_DATA() and the node's id. 2008-07-24add HAVE_CLK to Kconfig, for driver dependenciesDavid Brownell
Flag platforms as HAVE_CLK (or not) in Kconfig, based on whether they support <linux/clk.h> calls, so that otherwise portable drivers which need those calls can list that dependency. Something like this is a prerequisite for merging the musb_hdrc driver, currently used on platforms including Davinci, OMAP2430, OMAP3xx ... and the discrete TUSB6010 chip, which doesn't have a natural platform dependency. 2008-07-21sysdev: Pass the attribute to the low level sysdev show/store functionAndi Kleen
This allow to dynamically generate attributes and share show/store functions between attributes. Right now most attributes are generated by special macros and lots of duplicated code. With the attribute passed it's instead possible to attach some data to the attribute and then use that in shared low level functions to do different things. I need this for the dynamically generated bank attributes in the x86 machine check code, but it'll allow some further cleanups. I converted all users in tree to the new show/store prototype. 2008-07-18nohz: prevent tick stop outside of the idle loopThomas Gleixner
Jack Ren and Eric Miao tracked down the following long standing problem in the NOHZ code: scheduler switch to idle task enable interrupts Window starts here ----> interrupt happens (does not set NEED_RESCHED) irq_exit() stops the tick ----> interrupt happens (does set NEED_RESCHED) return from schedule() cpu_idle(): preempt_disable(); Window ends here The interrupts can happen at any point inside the race window. The first interrupt stops the tick, the second one causes the scheduler to rerun and switch away from idle again and we end up with the tick disabled. The fact that it needs two interrupts where the first one does not set NEED_RESCHED and the second one does made the bug obscure and extremly hard to reproduce and analyse. Kudos to Jack and Eric. Solution: Limit the NOHZ functionality to the idle loop to make sure that we can not run into such a situation ever again. cpu_idle() { preempt_disable(); while(1) { tick_nohz_stop_sched_tick(1); <- tell NOHZ code that we are in the idle loop while (!need_resched()) halt(); tick_nohz_restart_sched_tick(); <- disables NOHZ mode preempt_enable_no_resched(); schedule(); preempt_disable(); } } In hindsight we should have done this forever, but ... /me grabs a large brown paperbag. 2008-07-18avr32: clean up mci platform codeBen Nizette
This patch does a few small cleanups around the atmel mci platform code and in the atmel-mci driver. The platform changes simply removes an unused variable, uses the fact that by the end we always have some form of platform data and notes that GPIO_PIN_NONE != 0. This last point could cause the incorrect attempt to twice reserve pin PA0. While we've got the hood up, add linux/err.h to the atmel-mci.c include list. It needs it and generally pulls it by voodoo but I did once stumble across a config which don't build. This is against Linus' latest git. 2008-07-15atmel-mci: Driver for Atmel on-chip MMC controllersHaavard Skinnemoen
This is a driver for the MMC controller on the AP7000 chips from Atmel. It should in theory work on AT91 systems too with some tweaking, but since the DMA interface is quite different, it's not entirely clear if it's worth merging this with the at91_mci driver. This driver has been around for a while in BSPs and kernel sources provided by Atmel, but this particular version uses the generic DMA Engine framework (with the slave extensions) instead of an avr32-only DMA controller framework. This driver can also use PIO transfers when no DMA channels are available, and for transfers where using DMA may be difficult or impractical for some reason (e.g. the DMA setup overhead is usually not worth it for very short transfers, and badly aligned buffers or lengths are difficult to handle.) Currently, the driver only support PIO transfers. DMA support has been split out to a separate patch to hopefully make it easier to review. The driver has been tested using mmc-block and ext3fs on several SD, SDHC and MMC+ cards. Reads and writes work fine, with read transfer rates up to 3.5 MiB/s on fast cards with debugging disabled. The driver has also been tested using the mmc_test module on the same cards. All tests except 7, 9, 15 and 17 succeed. The first two are unsupported by all the cards I have, so I don't know if the driver handles this correctly. The last two fail because the hardware flags a Data CRC Error instead of a Data Timeout error. I'm not sure how to deal with that. Documentation for this controller can be found in many data sheets from Atmel, including the AT32AP7000 data sheet which can be found here: http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/datasheets.asp?family_id=682 Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com> Signed-off-by: Pierre Ossman <drzeus@drzeus.cx>

2008-07-08dmaengine: Driver for the Synopsys DesignWare DMA controllerHaavard Skinnemoen
This adds a driver for the Synopsys DesignWare DMA controller (aka DMACA on AVR32 systems.) This DMA controller can be found integrated on the AT32AP7000 chip and is primarily meant for peripheral DMA transfer, but can also be used for memory-to-memory transfers. This patch is based on a driver from David Brownell which was based on an older version of the DMA Engine framework. It also implements the proposed extensions to the DMA Engine API for slave DMA operations. The dmatest client shows no problems, but there may still be room for improvement performance-wise. DMA slave transfer performance is definitely "good enough"; reading 100 MiB from an SD card running at ~20 MHz yields ~7.2 MiB/s average transfer rate. Full documentation for this controller can be found in the Synopsys DW AHB DMAC Databook: http://www.synopsys.com/designware/docs/iip/DW_ahb_dmac/latest/doc/dw_ahb_dmac_db.pdf The controller has lots of implementation options, so it's usually a good idea to check the data sheet of the chip it's intergrated on as well. The AT32AP7000 data sheet can be found here: http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/datasheets.asp?family_id=682 Changes since v4: * Use client_count instead of dma_chan_is_in_use() * Add missing include * Unmap buffers unless client told us not to Changes since v3: * Update to latest DMA engine and DMA slave APIs * Embed the hw descriptor into the sw descriptor * Clean up and update MODULE_DESCRIPTION, copyright date, etc. Changes since v2: * Dequeue all pending transfers in terminate_all() * Rename dw_dmac.h -> dw_dmac_regs.h * Define and use controller-specific dma_slave data * Fix up a few outdated comments * Define hardware registers as structs (doesn't generate better code, unfortunately, but it looks nicer.) * Get number of channels from platform_data instead of hardcoding it based on CONFIG_WHATEVER_CPU. * Give slave clients exclusive access to the channel Acked-by: Maciej Sosnowski <maciej.sosnowski@intel.com>, Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com> Signed-off-by: Dan Williams <dan.j.williams@intel.com>

2008-07-02avr32: Power Management support ("standby" and "mem" modes)Haavard Skinnemoen
Implement Standby support. In this mode, we'll suspend all drivers, put the SDRAM in self-refresh mode and switch off the HSB bus ("frozen" mode.) Implement Suspend-to-mem support. In this mode, we suspend all drivers, put the SDRAM into self-refresh mode and switch off all internal clocks except the 32 kHz oscillator ("stop" mode.) The lowest-level suspend code runs from a small portion of SRAM allocated at startup time. This gets rid of a small potential race with the SDRAM where we might try to enter self-refresh mode in the middle of an icache burst. We also relocate all interrupt and exception handlers to SRAM during the small window when we enter and exit the low-power modes. We don't need to do any special tricks to start and stop the PLL. The main clock is automatically gated by hardware until the PLL is stable. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <hskinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-07-02avr32: Add system device for the internal interrupt controller (intc)Haavard Skinnemoen
This makes the intc show up in sysfs (probably not very useful), and allows us to easily add suspend/resume support later. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <hskinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-07-02avr32: Add simple SRAM allocatorHaavard Skinnemoen
Add SRAM allocator for avr32, which is just a thin wrapper around genalloc. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <hskinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-07-02avr32: Enable SDRAMC clock at startupHaavard Skinnemoen
The SDRAM controller needs a clock in order to respond to our commands, and suspend doesn't work very well without the SDRAM in self-refresh mode. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <hskinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-07-02avr32: Use a quicklist for PGD allocationHaavard Skinnemoen
Use a quicklist to allocate process PGDs. This is expected to be slightly faster since we need to copy entries from swapper_pg_dir, which can stay around for pages on the PGD quick list. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-07-02avr32: Cover the kernel page tables in the user PGDsHaavard Skinnemoen
Expand the per-process PGDs so that they cover the kernel virtual memory area as well. This simplifies the TLB miss handler fastpath since it doesn't have to check for kernel addresses anymore. If a TLB miss happens on a kernel address and a second-level page table can't be found, we check swapper_pg_dir and copy the PGD entry into the user PGD if it can be found there. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-07-02avr32: Store virtual addresses in the PGDHaavard Skinnemoen
Instead of storing physical addresses along with page flags in the PGD, store virtual addresses and use NULL to indicate a not present second-level page table. A non-page-aligned page table indicates a bad PMD. This simplifies the TLB miss handler since it no longer has to check the Present bit and no longer has to convert the PGD entry from physical to virtual address. Instead, it has to check for a NULL entry, which is slightly cheaper than either. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
2008-07-02avr32: Remove useless zeroing of swapper_pg_dir at startupHaavard Skinnemoen
swapper_pg_dir is stored in .bss, so it must already be zeroed out when we get there. Signed-off-by: Haavard Skinnemoen <haavard.skinnemoen@atmel.com>
