2009-09-02KEYS: Add a keyctl to install a process's session keyring on its parent [try #6]David Howells
Add a keyctl to install a process's session keyring onto its parent. This replaces the parent's session keyring. Because the COW credential code does not permit one process to change another process's credentials directly, the change is deferred until userspace next starts executing again. Normally this will be after a wait*() syscall. To support this, three new security hooks have been provided: cred_alloc_blank() to allocate unset security creds, cred_transfer() to fill in the blank security creds and key_session_to_parent() - which asks the LSM if the process may replace its parent's session keyring. The replacement may only happen if the process has the same ownership details as its parent, and the process has LINK permission on the session keyring, and the session keyring is owned by the process, and the LSM permits it. Note that this requires alteration to each architecture's notify_resume path. This has been done for all arches barring blackfin, m68k* and xtensa, all of which need assembly alteration to support TIF_NOTIFY_RESUME. This allows the replacement to be performed at the point the parent process resumes userspace execution. This allows the userspace AFS pioctl emulation to fully emulate newpag() and the VIOCSETTOK and VIOCSETTOK2 pioctls, all of which require the ability to alter the parent process's PAG membership. However, since kAFS doesn't use PAGs per se, but rather dumps the keys into the session keyring, the session keyring of the parent must be replaced if, for example, VIOCSETTOK is passed the newpag flag. This can be tested with the following program: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <keyutils.h> #define KEYCTL_SESSION_TO_PARENT 18 #define OSERROR(X, S) do { if ((long)(X) == -1) { perror(S); exit(1); } } while(0) int main(int argc, char **argv) { key_serial_t keyring, key; long ret; keyring = keyctl_join_session_keyring(argv[1]); OSERROR(keyring, "keyctl_join_session_keyring"); key = add_key("user", "a", "b", 1, keyring); OSERROR(key, "add_key"); ret = keyctl(KEYCTL_SESSION_TO_PARENT); OSERROR(ret, "KEYCTL_SESSION_TO_PARENT"); return 0; } Compiled and linked with -lkeyutils, you should see something like: [dhowells@andromeda ~]$ keyctl show Session Keyring -3 --alswrv 4043 4043 keyring: _ses 355907932 --alswrv 4043 -1 \_ keyring: _uid.4043 [dhowells@andromeda ~]$ /tmp/newpag [dhowells@andromeda ~]$ keyctl show Session Keyring -3 --alswrv 4043 4043 keyring: _ses 1055658746 --alswrv 4043 4043 \_ user: a [dhowells@andromeda ~]$ /tmp/newpag hello [dhowells@andromeda ~]$ keyctl show Session Keyring -3 --alswrv 4043 4043 keyring: hello 340417692 --alswrv 4043 4043 \_ user: a Where the test program creates a new session keyring, sticks a user key named 'a' into it and then installs it on its parent. 2009-08-05net: implement a SO_DOMAIN getsockoptionJan Engelhardt
This sockopt goes in line with SO_TYPE and SO_PROTOCOL. It makes it possible for userspace programs to pass around file descriptors — I am referring to arguments-to-functions, but it may even work for the fd passing over UNIX sockets — without needing to also pass the auxiliary information (PF_INET6/IPPROTO_TCP). 2009-08-05net: implement a SO_PROTOCOL getsockoptionJan Engelhardt
Similar to SO_TYPE returning the socket type, SO_PROTOCOL allows to retrieve the protocol used with a given socket. I am not quite sure why we have that-many copies of socket.h, and why the values are not the same on all arches either, but for where hex numbers dominate, I use 0x1029 for SO_PROTOCOL as that seems to be the next free unused number across a bunch of operating systems, or so Google results make me want to believe. SO_PROTOCOL for others just uses the next free Linux number, 38. Signed-off-by: Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@medozas.de> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2009-07-27mm: Pass virtual address to [__]p{te,ud,md}_free_tlb()Benjamin Herrenschmidt
mm: Pass virtual address to [__]p{te,ud,md}_free_tlb() Upcoming paches to support the new 64-bit "BookE" powerpc architecture will need to have the virtual address corresponding to PTE page when freeing it, due to the way the HW table walker works. Basically, the TLB can be loaded with "large" pages that cover the whole virtual space (well, sort-of, half of it actually) represented by a PTE page, and which contain an "indirect" bit indicating that this TLB entry RPN points to an array of PTEs from which the TLB can then create direct entries. Thus, in order to invalidate those when PTE pages are deleted, we need the virtual address to pass to tlbilx or tlbivax instructions. The old trick of sticking it somewhere in the PTE page struct page sucks too much, the address is almost readily available in all call sites and almost everybody implemets these as macros, so we may as well add the argument everywhere. I added it to the pmd and pud variants for consistency. Pull the initial preempt_count value into a single definition site. Maintainers for: alpha, ia64 and m68k, please have a look, your arch code is funny. The header magic is a bit odd, but similar to the KERNEL_DS one, CPP waits with expanding these macros until the INIT_THREAD_INFO macro itself is expanded, which is in arch/*/kernel/init_task.c where we've already included sched.h so we're good. 2009-07-09linker script: unify usage of discard definitionTejun Heo
Discarded sections in different archs share some commonality but have considerable differences. This led to linker script for each arch implementing its own /DISCARD/ definition, which makes maintaining tedious and adding new entries error-prone. This patch makes all linker scripts to move discard definitions to the end of the linker script and use the common DISCARDS macro. As ld uses the first matching section definition, archs can include default discarded sections by including them earlier in the linker script. ia64 is notable because it first throws away some ia64 specific subsections and then include the rest of the sections into the final image, so those sections must be discarded before the inclusion. defconfig compile tested for x86, x86-64, powerpc, powerpc64, ia64, alpha, sparc, sparc64 and s390. 2009-06-21Move FAULT_FLAG_xyz into handle_mm_fault() callersLinus Torvalds
This allows the callers to now pass down the full set of FAULT_FLAG_xyz flags to handle_mm_fault(). All callers have been (mechanically) converted to the new calling convention, there's almost certainly room for architectures to clean up their code and then add FAULT_FLAG_RETRY when that support is added. 2009-06-11asm-generic: rename atomic.h to atomic-long.hArnd Bergmann

2009-06-11asm-generic: introduce asm/bitsperlong.hArnd Bergmann
This provides a reliable way for asm-generic/types.h and other files to find out if it is running on a 32 or 64 bit platform. We cannot use CONFIG_64BIT for this in headers that are included from user space because CONFIG symbols are not available there. We also cannot do it inside of asm/types.h because some headers need the word size but cannot include types.h. The solution is to introduce a new header <asm/bitsperlong.h> that defines both __BITS_PER_LONG for user space and BITS_PER_LONG for usage in the kernel. The asm-generic version falls back to 32 bit unless the architecture overrides it, which I did for all 64 bit platforms. 2009-04-27FRV: Use __INIT macro instead of .text.init.Tim Abbott
FRV is placing some code in the .text.init section but does not reference that section in its linker scripts. This change moves this code from the .text.init section to the .init.text section, which is presumably where it belongs. 2009-04-27FRV: Remove unused header asm/init.h.Tim Abbott
It seems nothing has included the frv asm/init.h header for some time, and its actual contents are out of date with include/linux/init.h. So just delete it. 2009-04-27FRV: Stop gcc from generating uninitialised variable warnings after BUG()David Howells
Stop gcc from generating uninitialised variable warnings after BUG(). The problem is that FRV's call into its gdbstub appears to return (if the function is marked noreturn, then the compiler is under no obligation to pass it a return address, and so GDB won't know where the bug happened). To get around this, we make the do...while wrapper in _debug_bug_trap() an endless loop from which there's no escape. 2009-04-26frv: convert frv to use __HEAD and HEAD_TEXT macros.Tim Abbott
This has the consequence of changing the section name use for head code from ".text.head" to ".head.text". Since this commit changes all users in the architecture, this change should be harmless. 2009-04-21frv: insert PCI root bus resources for the MB93090 devel motherboardDavid Howells
Insert PCI root bus resources for the FRV-based MB93090 development kit motherboard. This is required because the CPU's window onto the PCI bus address space is considerably smaller than the CPU's full address space and non-PCI devices lie outside of the PCI window that we might want to access. Without this patch, the PCI root bus uses the platform-level bus resources, and these are then confined to the PCI window, thus making platform_device_add() reject devices outside of this window. 2009-01-08NOMMU: Make VMAs per MM as for MMU-mode linuxDavid Howells
Make VMAs per mm_struct as for MMU-mode linux. This solves two problems: (1) In SYSV SHM where nattch for a segment does not reflect the number of shmat's (and forks) done. (2) In mmap() where the VMA's vm_mm is set to point to the parent mm by an exec'ing process when VM_EXECUTABLE is specified, regardless of the fact that a VMA might be shared and already have its vm_mm assigned to another process or a dead process. A new struct (vm_region) is introduced to track a mapped region and to remember the circumstances under which it may be shared and the vm_list_struct structure is discarded as it's no longer required. This patch makes the following additional changes: (1) Regions are now allocated with alloc_pages() rather than kmalloc() and with no recourse to __GFP_COMP, so the pages are not composite. Instead, each page has a reference on it held by the region. Anything else that is interested in such a page will have to get a reference on it to retain it. When the pages are released due to unmapping, each page is passed to put_page() and will be freed when the page usage count reaches zero. (2) Excess pages are trimmed after an allocation as the allocation must be made as a power-of-2 quantity of pages. (3) VMAs are added to the parent MM's R/B tree and mmap lists. As an MM may end up with overlapping VMAs within the tree, the VMA struct address is appended to the sort key. (4) Non-anonymous VMAs are now added to the backing inode's prio list. (5) Holes may be punched in anonymous VMAs with munmap(), releasing parts of the backing region. The VMA and region structs will be split if necessary. (6) sys_shmdt() only releases one attachment to a SYSV IPC shared memory segment instead of all the attachments at that addresss. Multiple shmat()'s return the same address under NOMMU-mode instead of different virtual addresses as under MMU-mode. (7) Core dumping for ELF-FDPIC requires fewer exceptions for NOMMU-mode. (8) /proc/maps is now the global list of mapped regions, and may list bits that aren't actually mapped anywhere. (9) /proc/meminfo gains a line (tagged "MmapCopy") that indicates the amount of RAM currently allocated by mmap to hold mappable regions that can't be mapped directly. These are copies of the backing device or file if not anonymous. These changes make NOMMU mode more similar to MMU mode. The downside is that NOMMU mode requires some extra memory to track things over NOMMU without this patch (VMAs are no longer shared, and there are now region structs).
