2006-12-07[PATCH] relocatable kernel: Kallsyms generate relocatable symbolsEric W. Biederman
Print the addresses of non-absolute symbols relative to _text so that ld will generate relocations. Allowing a relocatable kernel to relocate them. We can't actually use the symbol names because kallsyms includes static symbols that are not exported from their object files. Add the _text symbol definitions to the architectures which don't define it otherwise linker will fail. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2006-10-02[PATCH] provide kernel_execve on all architecturesArnd Bergmann
This adds the new kernel_execve function on all architectures that were using _syscall3() to implement execve. The implementation uses code from the _syscall3 macros provided in the unistd.h header file. I don't have cross-compilers for any of these architectures, so the patch is untested with the exception of i386. Most architectures can probably implement this in a nicer way in assembly or by combining it with the sys_execve implementation itself, but this should do it for now. 2006-10-02[PATCH] namespaces: add nsproxySerge E. Hallyn
This patch adds a nsproxy structure to the task struct. Later patches will move the fs namespace pointer into this structure, and introduce a new utsname namespace into the nsproxy. The vserver and openvz functionality, then, would be implemented in large part by virtualizing/isolating more and more resources into namespaces, each contained in the nsproxy. 2006-10-01[PATCH] kill wall_jiffiesAtsushi Nemoto
With 2.6.18-rc4-mm2, now wall_jiffies will always be the same as jiffies. So we can kill wall_jiffies completely. This is just a cleanup and logically should not change any real behavior except for one thing: RTC updating code in (old) ppc and xtensa use a condition "jiffies - wall_jiffies == 1". This condition is never met so I suppose it is just a bug. I just remove that condition only instead of kill the whole "if" block. 2006-09-29[PATCH] simplify update_times (avoid jiffies/jiffies_64 aliasing problem)Atsushi Nemoto
Pass ticks to do_timer() and update_times(), and adjust x86_64 and s390 timer interrupt handler with this change. Currently update_times() calculates ticks by "jiffies - wall_jiffies", but callers of do_timer() should know how many ticks to update. Passing ticks get rid of this redundant calculation. Also there are another redundancy pointed out by Martin Schwidefsky. This cleanup make a barrier added by 5aee405c662ca644980c184774277fc6d0769a84 needless. So this patch removes it. As a bonus, this cleanup make wall_jiffies can be removed easily, since now wall_jiffies is always synced with jiffies. (This patch does not really remove wall_jiffies. It would be another cleanup patch) Signed-off-by: Atsushi Nemoto <anemo@mba.ocn.ne.jp> Cc: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com> Cc: "Eric W. 2006-06-23[PATCH] fix incorrect SA_ONSTACK behaviour for 64-bit processesLaurent MEYER
- When setting a sighandler using sigaction() call, if the flag SA_ONSTACK is set and no alternate stack is provided via sigaltstack(), the kernel still try to install the alternate stack. This behavior is the opposite of the one which is documented in Single Unix Specifications V3. - Also when setting an alternate stack using sigaltstack() with the flag SS_DISABLE, the kernel try to install the alternate stack on signal delivery. These two use cases makes the process crash at signal delivery. 2006-04-11[PATCH] No arch-specific strpbrk implementationsKyle McMartin
While cleaning up parisc_ksyms.c earlier, I noticed that strpbrk wasn't being exported from lib/string.c. Investigating further, I noticed a changeset that removed its export and added it to _ksyms.c on a few more architectures. The justification was that "other arches do it." I think this is wrong, since no architecture currently defines __HAVE_ARCH_STRPBRK, there's no reason for any of them to be exporting it themselves. Therefore, consolidate the export to lib/string.c. 2006-01-10[PATCH] m68knommu: fix a5 reg corruption in signal handlersGreg Ungerer
This is a patch adapted from a posting by Andrea Tarani which was pointed out to me by Bernardo Innocenti. Thanks to both of them for their help and patience. The original posting is here: http://mailman.uclinux.org/pipermail/uclinux-dev/2005-July/033543.html The problem first manifest itself as busybox ping terminating with an "Illegal instruction". I reduced this to a test case and found that variable size arrays allocated on the stack could lead to stacks not aligned on 32 bit boundaries. For the Coldfire this proved fatal. Having been pointed out this patch by Bernardo, I applied it and it fixed the first test case. I then went back to busybox's ping. This still failed with "Illegal instruction", but in a different way. Before it depended on the size allocated for the ping buffer, now it happened every time. I also found it depended on optimisation level (gcc-3.4.0) -Os was okay but not -O2. After a lot of looking, it turned out that register a5 was being corrupted by the signal handler (after applying the patch). I re-worked the patch a bit to save/restore a5 and now all seems well. mach_enable_irq/mach_disable_irq are never actually set, so let's remove them. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Cc: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] m68knommu: move some platform irq support out of irq.hGreg Ungerer
Move some of the m68knommu platform specific irq core support to its own header, irqnode.h. Having it in asm-m68knommu/irq.h causes some build pain, since it is included in a number of common code places (and not all the required definitions will be included at these places). 2005-11-07[PATCH] m68knommu: align param section and add 5208EVB linker supportGreg Ungerer
Align the param section. It can end up starting on an unalingned boundary depending on the size of ksymtab_strings. If it is unaligned things like modules will fail to load with unaligned access traps. Add linker scipt support for the M5208EVB board. Patch originally from Matt Waddel. 2005-11-07[PATCH] m68knommu: add ColdFire 5208 setup supportGreg Ungerer
Add setup support for the new Freescale 5208 ColdFire processor. (Also fixed a little typo in there, "UNKOWN" -> "UNKNOWN"). Patch originally from Matt Waddel (from code originally written by Mike Lavender). Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] consolidate sys_ptrace()Christoph Hellwig
The sys_ptrace boilerplate code (everything outside the big switch statement for the arch-specific requests) is shared by most architectures. This patch moves it to kernel/ptrace.c and leaves the arch-specific code as arch_ptrace. Some architectures have a too different ptrace so we have to exclude them. They continue to keep their implementations. For sh64 I had to add a sh64_ptrace wrapper because it does some initialization on the first call. For um I removed an ifdefed SUBARCH_PTRACE_SPECIAL block, but SUBARCH_PTRACE_SPECIAL isn't defined anywhere in the tree. 2005-10-30[PATCH] jiffies_64 cleanupThomas Gleixner
Define jiffies_64 in kernel/timer.c rather than having 24 duplicated defines in each architecture. Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-10-30[PATCH] unify sys_ptrace prototypeChristoph Hellwig
Make sure we always return, as all syscalls should. Also move the common prototype to <linux/syscalls.h> Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Miklos Szeredi <miklos@szeredi.hu> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-09-07[PATCH] NTP: ntp-helper functionsjohn stultz
This patch cleans up a commonly repeated set of changes to the NTP state variables by adding two helper inline functions: ntp_clear(): Clears the ntp state variables ntp_synced(): Returns 1 if the system is synced with a time server. This was compile tested for alpha, arm, i386, x86-64, ppc64, s390, sparc, sparc64.
