2010-10-27MN10300: Cache: Implement SMP global cache flushingAkira Takeuchi
Implement SMP global cache flushing for MN10300. This will be used by the AM34 which is SMP capable. Signed-off-by: Akira Takeuchi <takeuchi.akr@jp.panasonic.com> Signed-off-by: Kiyoshi Owada <owada.kiyoshi@jp.panasonic.com> Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>
2010-10-27MN10300: Allow some cacheflushes to be avoided if cache snooping is availableDavid Howells
The AM34 core is able to do cache snooping, and so can skip some of the cache flushing. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>
2010-10-27MN10300: AM34: Add cacheflushing by using the AM34 purge registersAkira Takeuchi
The AM34 CPU core provides an automated way of purging the cache rather than manually iterating over all the tags in the cache. Make it possible to use these. 2010-10-27MN10300: SMP: Differentiate local cache flushingAkira Takeuchi
Differentiate local cache flushing from global cache flushing so that they can be done differently on SMP systems. Rename the cache functions from: mn10300_[id]cache_*() to: mn10300_[id]_localcache_*() and on a UP system, assign the global labels to the local labels. 2010-10-27MN10300: AM34: The current cacheflush routines operate by controlling tag regsDavid Howells
The current cache flush and invalidate routines operate by controlling the cache tag registers. Rename the files and add config items to select them. This makes it easier to support the use of other cache flush methods instead, such as the use of AM34's area purge registers, if available. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>

2010-10-27MN10300: Provide the functions to fully disable maskable interruptsAkira Takeuchi
The local_irq_disable() function and co. merely raise the interrupt mask on the MN10300 arch to exclude normal interrupts. This still lets other, higher priority maskable interrupts through, such as are used to service gdbstub's serial port and the MN10300 on-chip serial port virtual FIFOs. Provide functions to allow the maskable interrupts to be fully disabled, which will exclude those interrupts. 2010-10-27MN10300: Prevent cnt32_to_63() from being preempted in sched_clock()David Howells
Prevent cnt32_to_63() from being preempted in sched_clock() because it may read its internal counter, get preempted, get delayed for more than the half period of the 'TSC' and then write the internal counter, thus corrupting it. Whilst some callers of sched_clock() have interrupts disabled or hold spinlocks, not all do, and so preemption must be held here. Note that sched_clock() is called from lockdep, but that shouldn't be a problem because although preempt_disable() calls into lockdep, lockdep has a recursion counter to deal with this. 2010-10-26mm: stack based kmap_atomic()Peter Zijlstra
Keep the current interface but ignore the KM_type and use a stack based approach. The advantage is that we get rid of crappy code like: #define __KM_PTE \ (in_nmi() ? KM_NMI_PTE : \ in_irq() ? KM_IRQ_PTE : \ KM_PTE0) and in general can stop worrying about what context we're in and what kmap slots might be appropriate for that. The downside is that FRV kmap_atomic() gets more expensive. For now we use a CPP trick suggested by Andrew: #define kmap_atomic(page, args...) __kmap_atomic(page) to avoid having to touch all kmap_atomic() users in a single patch. 2010-10-25MN10300: Fix the PERCPU() alignment to allow for workqueuesDavid Howells
In the MN10300 arch, we occasionally see an assertion being tripped in alloc_cwqs() at the following line: /* just in case, make sure it's actually aligned */ ---> BUG_ON(!IS_ALIGNED(wq->cpu_wq.v, align)); return wq->cpu_wq.v ? 0 : -ENOMEM; The values are: wa->cpu_wq.v => 0x902776e0 align => 0x100 and align is calculated by the following: const size_t align = max_t(size_t, 1 << WORK_STRUCT_FLAG_BITS, __alignof__(unsigned long long)); This is because the pointer in question (wq->cpu_wq.v) loses some of its lower bits to control flags, and so the object it points to must be sufficiently aligned to avoid the need to use those bits for pointing to things. Currently, 4 control bits and 4 colour bits are used in normal circumstances, plus a debugging bit if debugging is set. This requires the cpu_workqueue_struct struct to be at least 256 bytes aligned (or 512 bytes aligned with debugging). PERCPU() alignment on MN13000, however, is only 32 bytes as set in vmlinux.lds.S. So we set this to PAGE_SIZE (4096) to match most other arches and stick a comment in alloc_cwqs() for anyone else who triggers the assertion. 2010-10-07Fix IRQ flag handling namingDavid Howells
Fix the IRQ flag handling naming. In linux/irqflags.h under one configuration, it maps: local_irq_enable() -> raw_local_irq_enable() local_irq_disable() -> raw_local_irq_disable() local_irq_save() -> raw_local_irq_save() ... and under the other configuration, it maps: raw_local_irq_enable() -> local_irq_enable() raw_local_irq_disable() -> local_irq_disable() raw_local_irq_save() -> local_irq_save() ... This is quite confusing. There should be one set of names expected of the arch, and this should be wrapped to give another set of names that are expected by users of this facility. Change this to have the arch provide: flags = arch_local_save_flags() flags = arch_local_irq_save() arch_local_irq_restore(flags) arch_local_irq_disable() arch_local_irq_enable() arch_irqs_disabled_flags(flags) arch_irqs_disabled() arch_safe_halt() Then linux/irqflags.h wraps these to provide: raw_local_save_flags(flags) raw_local_irq_save(flags) raw_local_irq_restore(flags) raw_local_irq_disable() raw_local_irq_enable() raw_irqs_disabled_flags(flags) raw_irqs_disabled() raw_safe_halt() with type checking on the flags 'arguments', and then wraps those to provide: local_save_flags(flags) local_irq_save(flags) local_irq_restore(flags) local_irq_disable() local_irq_enable() irqs_disabled_flags(flags) irqs_disabled() safe_halt() with tracing included if enabled. The arch functions can now all be inline functions rather than some of them having to be macros. 2010-10-05modules: Fix module_bug_list list corruption raceLinus Torvalds
With all the recent module loading cleanups, we've minimized the code that sits under module_mutex, fixing various deadlocks and making it possible to do most of the module loading in parallel. However, that whole conversion totally missed the rather obscure code that adds a new module to the list for BUG() handling. That code was doubly obscure because (a) the code itself lives in lib/bugs.c (for dubious reasons) and (b) it gets called from the architecture-specific "module_finalize()" rather than from generic code. Calling it from arch-specific code makes no sense what-so-ever to begin with, and is now actively wrong since that code isn't protected by the module loading lock any more. So this commit moves the "module_bug_{finalize,cleanup}()" calls away from the arch-specific code, and into the generic code - and in the process protects it with the module_mutex so that the list operations are now safe. Future fixups: - move the module list handling code into kernel/module.c where it belongs. - get rid of 'module_bug_list' and just use the regular list of modules (called 'modules' - imagine that) that we already create and maintain for other reasons. 2010-10-01MN10300: Fix flush_icache_range()David Howells
flush_icache_range() is given virtual addresses to describe the region. It deals with these by attempting to translate them through the current set of page tables. This is fine for userspace memory and vmalloc()'d areas as they are governed by page tables. However, since the regions above 0x80000000 aren't translated through the page tables by the MMU, the kernel doesn't bother to set up page tables for them (see paging_init()). This means flush_icache_range() as it stands cannot be used to flush regions of the VM area between 0x80000000 and 0x9fffffff where the kernel resides if the data cache is operating in WriteBack mode. To fix this, make flush_icache_range() first check for addresses in the upper half of VM space and deal with them appropriately, before dealing with any range in the page table mapped area. Ordinarily, this is not a problem, but it has the capacity to make kprobes and kgdb malfunction. It should not affect gdbstub, signal frame setup or module loading as gdb has its own flush functions, and the others take place in the page table mapped area only. 2010-08-17Make do_execve() take a const filename pointerDavid Howells
Make do_execve() take a const filename pointer so that kernel_execve() compiles correctly on ARM: arch/arm/kernel/sys_arm.c:88: warning: passing argument 1 of 'do_execve' discards qualifiers from pointer target type This also requires the argv and envp arguments to be consted twice, once for the pointer array and once for the strings the array points to. This is because do_execve() passes a pointer to the filename (now const) to copy_strings_kernel(). A simpler alternative would be to cast the filename pointer in do_execve() when it's passed to copy_strings_kernel(). do_execve() may not change any of the strings it is passed as part of the argv or envp lists as they are some of them in .rodata, so marking these strings as const should be fine. Add a dummy printk function for the maintenance of unused printks through gcc format checking, and also so that side-effect checking is maintained too. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2010-08-12MN10300: Don't try and #include <linux/slab.h> in lib/inflate.c from bootloaderDavid Howells
Don't try and #include <linux/slab.h> in lib/inflate.c from the bootloader code as linux/slab.h hauls in function defs that aren't available in the bootloader code and may also haul in conflicting functions. To fix this, make the inclusion of linux/slab.h contingent on NO_INFLATE_MALLOC as are the usages of kmalloc() and kfree(). In MN10300, this causes the following errors: In file included from include/linux/string.h:21, from include/linux/bitmap.h:8, from include/linux/nodemask.h:93, from include/linux/mmzone.h:16, from include/linux/gfp.h:4, from include/linux/slab.h:12, from arch/mn10300/boot/compressed/../../../../lib/inflate.c:106, from arch/mn10300/boot/compressed/misc.c:170: /warthog/am33/linux-2.6-mn10300/arch/mn10300/include/asm/string.h:19: error: conflicting types for 'memset' arch/mn10300/boot/compressed/misc.c:59: error: previous definition of 'memset' was here Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2010-08-12MN10300: Fix size_t and ssize_tDavid Howells
With the newer compilers, size_t and ssize_t are expected to be (un)signed int rather than (un)signed long. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2010-08-12MN10300: Fix RTC routinesDavid Howells
A change to the RTC routines in the MN10300 arch used set_rtc_mms() when it meant set_rtc_mmss(). This results in an error due to a reference of an undefined symbol. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2010-08-11dma-mapping: remove dma_is_consistent APIFUJITA Tomonori
Architectures implement dma_is_consistent() in different ways (some misinterpret the definition of API in DMA-API.txt). So it hasn't been so useful for drivers. We have only one user of the API in tree. Unlikely out-of-tree drivers use the API. Even if we fix dma_is_consistent() in some architectures, it doesn't look useful at all. It was invented long ago for some old systems that can't allocate coherent memory at all. It's better to export only APIs that are definitely necessary for drivers. Let's remove this API.
