2013-07-31x86 / tboot / ACPI: Fail extended mode reduced hardware sleepBen Guthro
Register for the extended sleep callback from ACPI. As tboot currently does not support the reduced hardware sleep interface, fail this extended sleep call. 2013-07-14x86: delete __cpuinit usage from all x86 filesPaul Gortmaker
The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time") is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created with improper use of the various __init prefixes. After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone, we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h. Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c) are flagged as __cpuinit -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings. As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get rid of these warnings. In any case, they are temporary and harmless. This removes all the arch/x86 uses of the __cpuinit macros from all C files. x86 only had the one __CPUINIT used in assembly files, and it wasn't paired off with a .previous or a __FINIT, so we can delete it directly w/o any corresponding additional change there. 2012-12-15Revert "x86-64/efi: Use EFI to deal with platform wall clock (again)"Linus Torvalds
This reverts commit bd52276fa1d4 ("x86-64/efi: Use EFI to deal with platform wall clock (again)"), and the two supporting commits: da5a108d05b4: "x86/kernel: remove tboot 1:1 page table creation code" 185034e72d59: "x86, efi: 1:1 pagetable mapping for virtual EFI calls") as they all depend semantically on commit 53b87cf088e2 ("x86, mm: Include the entire kernel memory map in trampoline_pgd") that got reverted earlier due to the problems it caused. This was pointed out by Yinghai Lu, and verified by me on my Macbook Air that uses EFI. Pointed-out-by: Yinghai Lu <yinghai@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2012-10-30x86/kernel: remove tboot 1:1 page table creation codeXiaoyan Zhang
For TXT boot, while Linux kernel trys to shutdown/S3/S4/reboot, it need to jump back to tboot code and do TXT teardown work. Previously kernel zapped all mem page identity mapping (va=pa) after booting, so tboot code mem address was mapped again with identity mapping. Now kernel didn't zap the identity mapping page table, so tboot related code can remove the remapping code before trapping back now. 2011-06-21net: remove mm.h inclusion from netdevice.hAlexey Dobriyan
Remove linux/mm.h inclusion from netdevice.h -- it's unused (I've checked manually). To prevent mm.h inclusion via other channels also extract "enum dma_data_direction" definition into separate header. This tiny piece is what gluing netdevice.h with mm.h via "netdevice.h => dmaengine.h => dma-mapping.h => scatterlist.h => mm.h". Removal of mm.h from scatterlist.h was tried and was found not feasible on most archs, so the link was cutoff earlier. Hope people are OK with tiny include file. Note, that mm_types.h is still dragged in, but it is a separate story. Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2011-05-25mm: convert mm->cpu_vm_cpumask into cpumask_var_tKOSAKI Motohiro
cpumask_t is very big struct and cpu_vm_mask is placed wrong position. It might lead to reduce cache hit ratio. This patch has two change. 1) Move the place of cpumask into last of mm_struct. Because usually cpumask is accessed only front bits when the system has cpu-hotplug capability 2) Convert cpu_vm_mask into cpumask_var_t. It may help to reduce memory footprint if cpumask_size() will use nr_cpumask_bits properly in future. In addition, this patch change the name of cpu_vm_mask with cpu_vm_mask_var. It may help to detect out of tree cpu_vm_mask users. This patch has no functional change. 2011-01-13thp: pte alloc trans splittingAndrea Arcangeli
pte alloc routines must wait for split_huge_page if the pmd is not present and not null (i.e. pmd_trans_splitting). The additional branches are optimized away at compile time by pmd_trans_splitting if the config option is off. However we must pass the vma down in order to know the anon_vma lock to wait for. 2010-05-19KVM: VMX: enable VMXON check with SMX enabled (Intel TXT)Shane Wang
Per document, for feature control MSR: Bit 1 enables VMXON in SMX operation. If the bit is clear, execution of VMXON in SMX operation causes a general-protection exception. Bit 2 enables VMXON outside SMX operation. If the bit is clear, execution of VMXON outside SMX operation causes a general-protection exception. 2010-03-19x86, tboot: Add support for S3 memory integrity protectionShane Wang
This patch adds support for S3 memory integrity protection within an Intel(R) TXT launched kernel, for all kernel and userspace memory. All RAM used by the kernel and userspace, as indicated by memory ranges of type E820_RAM and E820_RESERVED_KERN in the e820 table, will be integrity protected. The MAINTAINERS file is also updated to reflect the maintainers of the TXT-related code. All MACing is done in tboot, based on a complexity analysis and tradeoff. v3: Compared with v2, this patch adds a check of array size in tboot.c, and a note to specify which c/s of tboot supports this kind of MACing in intel_txt.txt. 2009-07-21x86, intel_txt: Intel TXT boot supportJoseph Cihula
This patch adds kernel configuration and boot support for Intel Trusted Execution Technology (Intel TXT). Intel's technology for safer computing, Intel Trusted Execution Technology (Intel TXT), defines platform-level enhancements that provide the building blocks for creating trusted platforms. Intel TXT was formerly known by the code name LaGrande Technology (LT). Intel TXT in Brief: o Provides dynamic root of trust for measurement (DRTM) o Data protection in case of improper shutdown o Measurement and verification of launched environment Intel TXT is part of the vPro(TM) brand and is also available some non-vPro systems. It is currently available on desktop systems based on the Q35, X38, Q45, and Q43 Express chipsets (e.g. Dell Optiplex 755, HP dc7800, etc.) and mobile systems based on the GM45, PM45, and GS45 Express chipsets. For more information, see http://www.intel.com/technology/security/. This site also has a link to the Intel TXT MLE Developers Manual, which has been updated for the new released platforms. A much more complete description of how these patches support TXT, how to configure a system for it, etc. is in the Documentation/intel_txt.txt file in this patch. This patch provides the TXT support routines for complete functionality, documentation for TXT support and for the changes to the boot_params structure, and boot detection of a TXT launch. Attempts to shutdown (reboot, Sx) the system will result in platform resets; subsequent patches will support these shutdown modes properly.
