2015-02-19lguest: update help text.Rusty Russell
We now add about 10k, not 6k, when lguest support is compiled in. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>

2013-03-04x86: Make Linux guest support optionalBorislav Petkov
Put all config options needed to run Linux as a guest behind a CONFIG_HYPERVISOR_GUEST menu so that they don't get built-in by default but be selectable by the user. Also, make all units which depend on x86_hyper, depend on this new symbol so that compilation doesn't fail when CONFIG_HYPERVISOR_GUEST is disabled but those units assume its presence. Sort options in the new HYPERVISOR_GUEST menu, adapt config text and drop redundant select. 2013-02-14lguest: select CONFIG_TTY to build properly.Randy Dunlap
Fix kconfig warning for LGUEST_GUEST config by selecting TTY: warning: (KVMTOOL_TEST_ENABLE && LGUEST_GUEST) selects VIRTIO_CONSOLE which has unmet direct dependencies (VIRTIO && TTY) Signed-off-by: Randy Dunlap <rdunlap@infradead.org> Cc: Stephen Rothwell <sfr@canb.auug.org.au> Cc: Joe Millenbach <jmillenbach@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
2012-09-28virtio: remove CONFIG_VIRTIO_RINGRusty Russell
Everyone who selects VIRTIO is also made to select VIRTIO_RING; just make them synonymous, since we removed the indirection layer some time ago. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2011-01-20LGUEST_GUEST: fix unmet direct dependencies (VIRTUALIZATION && VIRTIO)Randy Dunlap
Honor the kconfig menu hierarchy to remove kconfig dependency warnings: VIRTIO and VIRTIO_RING are subordinate to VIRTUALIZATION. warning: (LGUEST_GUEST) selects VIRTIO which has unmet direct dependencies (VIRTUALIZATION) warning: (LGUEST_GUEST && VIRTIO_PCI && VIRTIO_BALLOON) selects VIRTIO_RING which has unmet direct dependencies (VIRTUALIZATION && VIRTIO) Reported-by: Toralf F_rster <toralf.foerster@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Randy Dunlap <randy.dunlap@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2009-06-12lguest: PAE supportMatias Zabaljauregui
This version requires that host and guest have the same PAE status. NX cap is not offered to the guest, yet. Signed-off-by: Matias Zabaljauregui <zabaljauregui@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2009-02-23x86: remove the Voyager 32-bit subarchIngo Molnar
Impact: remove unused/broken code The Voyager subarch last built successfully on the v2.6.26 kernel and has been stale since then and does not build on the v2.6.27, v2.6.28 and v2.6.29-rc5 kernels. No actual users beyond the maintainer reported this breakage. Patches were sent and most of the fixes were accepted but the discussion around how to do a few remaining issues cleanly fizzled out with no resolution and the code remained broken. In the v2.6.30 x86 tree development cycle 32-bit subarch support has been reworked and removed - and the Voyager code, beyond the build problems already known, needs serious and significant changes and probably a rewrite to support it. CONFIG_X86_VOYAGER has been marked BROKEN then. The maintainer has been notified but no patches have been sent so far to fix it. While all other subarchs have been converted to the new scheme, voyager is still broken. We'd prefer to receive patches which clean up the current situation in a constructive way, but even in case of removal there is no obstacle to add that support back after the issues have been sorted out in a mutually acceptable fashion. So remove this inactive code for now. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-07-10x86, VisWS: turn into generic arch, eliminate Kconfig specialsIngo Molnar
remove leftover traces of various VISWS related Kconfig specials. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-01-30x86: remove depends on X86_32 from PARAVIRT & PARAVIRT_GUESTEduardo Pereira Habkost
With this, the paravirt_ops code can be enabled on x86_64 also. Each guest implementation (Xen, VMI, lguest) now depends on X86_32. The dependencies can be dropped for each one when they start to support x86_64. 2007-11-29lguest: prevent VISWS or VOYAGER randconfigsRandy Dunlap
Keep lguest from being enabled on VISWS or VOYAGER configs, just as is already done for VMI and XEN. Otherwise randconfigs with VISWS and LGUEST have this problem: In file included from arch/x86/kernel/setup_32.c:61: include/asm-x86/mach-visws/setup_arch.h:8:1: warning: "ARCH_SETUP" redefined In file included from include/asm/msr.h:80, from include/asm/processor_32.h:17, from include/asm/processor.h:2, from include/asm/thread_info_32.h:16, from include/asm/thread_info.h:2, from include/linux/thread_info.h:21, from include/linux/preempt.h:9, from include/linux/spinlock.h:49, from include/linux/seqlock.h:29, from include/linux/time.h:8, from include/linux/timex.h:57, from include/linux/sched.h:53, from arch/x86/kernel/setup_32.c:24: include/asm/paravirt.h:458:1: warning: this is the location of the previous definition (and of course, this happens because kconfig does not follow dependencies when [evil] select is used...) 2007-10-23Lguest support for VirtioRusty Russell
This makes lguest able to use the virtio devices. We change the device descriptor page from a simple array to a variable length "type, config_len, status, config data..." format, and implement virtio_config_ops to read from that config data. We use the virtio ring implementation for an efficient Guest <-> Host virtqueue mechanism, and the new LHCALL_NOTIFY hypercall to kick the host when it changes. We also use LHCALL_NOTIFY on kernel addresses for very very early console output. We could have another hypercall, but this hack works quite well. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2007-10-23Virtio helper routines for a descriptor ringbuffer implementationRusty Russell
These helper routines supply most of the virtqueue_ops for hypervisors which want to use a ring for virtio. Unlike the previous lguest implementation: 1) The rings are variable sized (2^n-1 elements). 2) They have an unfortunate limit of 65535 bytes per sg element. 3) The page numbers are always 64 bit (PAE anyone?) 4) They no longer place used[] on a separate page, just a separate cacheline. 5) We do a modulo on a variable. We could be tricky if we cared. 6) Interrupts and notifies are suppressed using flags within the rings. Users need only get the ring pages and provide a notify hook (KVM wants the guest to allocate the rings, lguest does it sanely). 2007-10-23Move lguest guest support to arch/x86.Rusty Russell
Lguest has two sides: host support (to launch guests) and guest support (replacement boot path and paravirt_ops). This moves the guest side to arch/x86/lguest where it's closer to related code. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au> Cc: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de>
