2012-10-10sparc64: fix ptrace interaction with force_successful_syscall_return()Al Viro
we want syscall_trace_leave() called on exit from any syscall; skipping its call in case we'd done force_successful_syscall_return() is broken... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2012-10-10sparc64: Fix deficiencies in sun4v error reporting.David S. Miller
Missing error types, attributes, and report fields. Pad out to 64-bytes. Make string reporting cleaner and easier to extend in the future using "const char *" arrays that index by either bit position, or absolute field value. Report the raw 64-byte error report as a sequence of u64s before the annotated version. Only report fields which are valid, given the context and the attribute bits which are set. For shutdown requests, use the local copy of the error report not the one we just freed up back to the queue. Also, use orderly_poweroff() just like the Domain Services shutdown request code does. If the real-address reported is "-1" (unknown) try to disassemble the instruction to report the effective address of the access. Only do this in privileged mode. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2012-10-10Merge tag 'for-3.7-rc1' of git://gitorious.org/linux-pwm/linux-pwmLinus Torvalds
Pull pwm changes from Thierry Reding: "All legacy PWM providers have now been moved to the PWM subsystem. The plan for 3.8 is to adapt all board files to provide a lookup table for PWM devices in order to get rid of the global namespace. Subsequently, users of the legacy pwm_request() and pwm_free() functions can be migrated to the new pwm_get() and pwm_put() functions. Once this has been completed, the legacy API and the compatibility code in the core can be removed. In addition to the above, these changes also add support for configuring the polarity of a PWM signal (currently only supported on ECAP and EHRPWM) and include a much needed rework of the i.MX driver. Managed functions to obtain and release a PWM device (devm_pwm_get() and devm_pwm_put()) have been added and the pwm-backlight driver has been updated to use them. If the PWM subsystem hasn't been enabled, dummy functions are provided that allow the subsystem to safely compile out. Some common checks on input parameters have been moved to the core and removed from the drivers. Finally, a small fix corrects the description of the PWM specifier's second cell in the device tree representation." * tag 'for-3.7-rc1' of git://gitorious.org/linux-pwm/linux-pwm: (23 commits) pwm: dt: Fix description of second PWM cell pwm: Check for negative duty-cycle and period pwm: Add Ingenic JZ4740 support MIPS: JZ4740: Export timer API pwm: Move PUV3 PWM driver to PWM framework unicore32: pwm: Use managed resource allocations unicore32: pwm: Remove unnecessary indirection unicore32: pwm: Use module_platform_driver() unicore32: pwm: Properly remap memory-mapped registers pwm-backlight: Use devm_pwm_get() instead of pwm_get() pwm: Move AB8500 PWM driver to PWM framework pwm: Fix compilation error when CONFIG_PWM is not defined pwm: i.MX: fix clock lookup pwm: i.MX: use per clock unconditionally pwm: i.MX: add devicetree support pwm: i.MX: Use module_platform_driver pwm: i.MX: add functions to enable/disable pwm. pwm: i.MX: remove unnecessary if in pwm_[en|dis]able pwm: i.MX: factor out SoC specific functions pwm: pwm-tiehrpwm: Add support for configuring polarity of PWM ...

2012-10-10pinctrl/nomadik: support other alternate-C functionsJean-Nicolas Graux
Upgrade nomadik pinctrl driver to enable selection of other alternate-C[1-4] functions on some specific ux500 SoC pins. Handling of those functions is done thanks to PRCM GPIOCR registers. This was previously managed in PRCMU driver and it was not really convenient. Idea is to provide a common way to control all alternate functions. Note that this improvement does not support the old-fashioned way used to control nomadik pins, namely the "nmk_config_pin()" function and its derivatives. into fbdev-next Omapdss driver changes for the 3.7 merge window. Notable changes: * Basic writeback support for DISPC level. Writeback is not yet usable, though, as we need higher level code to actually expose the writeback feature to userspace. * Rewriting the omapdss output drivers. We're trying to remove the hard links between the omapdss and the panels, and this rewrite work moves us closer to that goal. * Cleanup and restructuring patches that have been made while working on device tree support for omapdss. Device tree support is still some way ahead, but these patches are good cleanups in themselves. * Basic OMAP5 DSS support for DPI and DSI outputs. * Workaround for the problem that GFX overlay's fifo is too small for high resolution scenarios, causing underflows. * Cleanups that remove dependencies to omap platform code.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tmlind/linux-omap into fixes From Tony Lindgren: These were agreed to be merged via arm soc tree as Rafael is on vacation. From Kevin Hilman <khilman@deeprootsystems.com>: This series a couple bug fixes and a couple fixes that make this driver support recently added OMAP-based SoCs. The 'get_cpu_device' patch is needed due to a change in the OMAP OMAP PM core code which enforces use of get_cpu_device() instead of a deprecated OMAP-specific API. The usage of plat/*.h headers breaks single zImage, so platforms are cleaning up and/or removing plat/*.h so the driver needs to be fixed accordingly. This series is based on the merge of Rafael's pm-for-3.7-rc1 tag into Linus' master branch: commit 16642a2e7be23bbda013fc32d8f6c68982eab603. * tag 'omap-for-v3.7-rc1/fixes-cpufreq-signed' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tmlind/linux-omap: ARM: OMAP2+: PM: MPU DVFS: use generic CPU device for MPU-SS cpufreq: OMAP: use get_cpu_device() instead of omap_device API cpufreq: OMAP: fix clock usage to be SoC independent, remove plat/ includes cpufreq: OMAP: remove unused <plat/omap-pm.h> cpufreq: OMAP: ensure valid clock rate before scaling

The flat_get_addr_from_rp() macro does not use the 'persistent' argument on ARM, causing a harmless compiler warning. A cast to void removes that warning. Without this patch, building at91x40_defconfig results in: fs/binfmt_flat.c: In function 'load_flat_file': fs/binfmt_flat.c:746:17: warning: unused variable 'persistent' [-Wunused-variable] Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Acked-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org> Cc: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk> Cc: Bryan Wu <bryan.wu@canonical.com>
2012-10-09ARM: be really quiet when building with 'make -s'Arnd Bergmann
Sometimes we want the kernel build process to only print messages on errors, e.g. in automated build testing. This uses the "kecho" macro that the build system provides to hide a few informational messages. Nothing changes for a regular "make" or "make V=1". Without this patch, building any ARM kernel results in: Kernel: arch/arm/boot/Image is ready Kernel: arch/arm/boot/zImage is ready Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Acked-by: Nicolas Pitre <nicolas.pitre@linaro.org> Cc: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk> Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Michal Marek <mmarek@suse.cz>
2012-10-09ARM: pass -marm to gcc by default for both C and assemblerArnd Bergmann
The Linaro cross toolchain and probably others nowadays default to building in THUMB2 mode. When building a kernel for a CPU that does not support THUMB2, the compiler complains about incorrect flags. We can work around this by setting -marm for all non-T2 builds. -marm was passed unconditionally for C files previously, but nothing was passed to the gcc frontend when processing .S files, resulting in a warning. The assembler never defaults to ARM unless -Wa,-mthumb is supplied explicitly, so the files were still assembled correctly. This patch makes sure that -marm is passed for .S files too, and also avoids the redundant gcc -marm -mthumb in Thumb kernels. Without this patch, building assabet_defconfig results in: usr/initramfs_data.S:1:0: warning: target CPU does not support THUMB instructions [enabled by default] arch/arm/nwfpe/entry.S:1:0: warning: target CPU does not support THUMB instructions [enabled by default] firmware/cis/PCMLM28.cis.gen.S:1:0: warning: target CPU does not support THUMB instructions [enabled by default] (and many more) Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Acked-by: Nicolas Pitre <nico@linaro.org> Acked-by: Dave Martin <dave.martin@linaro.org> Cc: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2012-10-09ARM: Xen: fix initial build problemsArnd Bergmann
* The XEN_BALLOON code requires the balloon infrastructure that is not getting built on ARM. * The tmem hypercall is not available on ARM * ARMv6 does not support cmpxchg on 16-bit words that are used in the Xen grant table code, so we must ensure that Xen support is only built on ARMv7-only kernels not combined ARMv6/v7 kernels. * sys-hypervisor.c needs to include linux/err.h in order to use the IS_ERR/PTR_ERR/ERR_PTR family of functions. 2012-10-09ARM: export default read_current_timerArnd Bergmann
read_current_timer is used by get_cycles since "ARM: 7538/1: delay: add registration mechanism for delay timer sources", and get_cycles can be used by device drivers in loadable modules, so it has to be exported. Without this patch, building imote2_defconfig fails with ERROR: "read_current_timer" [crypto/tcrypt.ko] undefined! 2012-10-09ARM: Fix another build warning in arch/arm/mm/alignment.cArnd Bergmann
One such warning was recently fixed in a761cebf "ARM: Fix build warning in arch/arm/mm/alignment.c" but only for the thumb2 case, this fixes the other half. arch/arm/mm/alignment.c: In function 'do_alignment': arch/arm/mm/alignment.c:327:15: error: 'offset.un' may be used uninitialized in this function arch/arm/mm/alignment.c:748:21: note: 'offset.un' was declared here Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2012-10-09ARM: export set_irq_flagsArnd Bergmann
The recently added Emma Mobile GPIO driver calls set_irq_flags and irq_set_chip_and_handler for the interrupts it exports and it can be built as a module, which currently fails with ERROR: "set_irq_flags" [drivers/gpio/gpio-em.ko] undefined! We either need to replace the call to set_irq_flags with something else or export that function. This patch does the latter. 2012-10-09ARM: assabet: fix bogus warning in get_assabet_scr (again)Arnd Bergmann
Russell fixed this bogus warning before in 2f3eca8b4f "Shut up gcc warning in assabet.c", but apparently gcc has become smarter (or dumber) since 2005, and the same warning came up again. This uses the uninitialized_var() macro to convince gcc that the variable is actually being initialized. 100 times in fact. Without this patch, building assabet_defconfig results in: arch/arm/mach-sa1100/assabet.c: In function 'fixup_assabet': arch/arm/mach-sa1100/assabet.c:397:6: warning: 'scr' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Wuninitialized] arch/arm/mach-sa1100/assabet.c:389:16: note: 'scr' was declared here Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
2012-10-09ARM: shmobile: mark shmobile_init_late as __initArnd Bergmann
Patch 35f2b0bd59 "ARM: shmobile: Move definition of shmobile_init_late() to header" moved the definition of the shmobile_init_late function, but dropped the __init annotation, which is now causing warnings because the function calls shmobile_suspend_init, which is also marked init. Without this patch, building kota2_defconfig results in: WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0xb7c8): Section mismatch in reference from the function shmobile_init_late() to the function .init.text:shmobile_suspend_init() The function shmobile_init_late() references the function __init shmobile_suspend_init(). 2012-10-09s390/entry: fix svc number for TIF_SYSCALL system call restartMartin Schwidefsky
The load of the svc number in the TIF_SYSCALL restart path needs to be done with an instruction that loads all 64 bits of %r1, 'lh' only loads 32 bits. If the upper half of %r1 is not zero and has the msb set, entry64.S will try to execute an svc with a really large number. What will be in the upper half of %r1 depends on the code generated by gcc for the functions on the do_signal() callchain. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
