2010-05-17drivers: Push down BKL into various driversArnd Bergmann
These are the last remaining device drivers using the ->ioctl file operation in the drivers directory (except from v4l drivers). [fweisbec: drop i8k pushdown as it has been done from procfs pushdown branch already] Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Frederic Weisbecker <fweisbec@gmail.com>

2009-06-19dtlk: off by one in {read,write}_tts()Roel Kluin
With a postfix increment retries is incremented beyond DTLK_MAX_RETRIES so the error message is not displayed correctly. Signed-off-by: Roel Kluin <roel.kluin@gmail.com> Cc: James R. 2008-06-20Add a bunch of cycle_kernel_lock() callsJonathan Corbet
All of the open() functions which don't need the BKL on their face may still depend on its acquisition to serialize opens against driver initialization. So make those functions acquire then release the BKL to be on the safe side. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>
2008-06-20Add "no BKL needed" comments to several driversJonathan Corbet
This documents the fact that somebody looked at the relevant open() functions and concluded that, due to their trivial nature, no locking was needed. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>
2007-05-08dtlk: fix error checks in module_init()Akinobu Mita
This patch fixes two things in module_init. - fix register_chrdev() error check Currently dtlk doesn't check register_chrdev() failure correctly. register_chrdev() returns a errno on failure. - check probe failure dtlk ignores probe failure and allows the module loading without such device. I got "Trying to free nonexistent resource" message by release_region() when unloading module without device. 2007-05-08header cleaning: don't include smp_lock.h when not usedRandy Dunlap
Remove includes of <linux/smp_lock.h> where it is not used/needed. Suggested by Al Viro. Builds cleanly on x86_64, i386, alpha, ia64, powerpc, sparc, sparc64, and arm (all 59 defconfigs). 2007-02-12[PATCH] Char: timers cleanupJiri Slaby
- Use timer macros to set function and data members and to modify expiration time. - Use DEFINE_TIMER for global timers and do not init them at run-time in these cases. - del_timer_sync is common in most cases -- we want to wait for timer function if it's still running. 2006-07-03[PATCH] make more file_operation structs staticArjan van de Ven
Mark the static struct file_operations in drivers/char as const. Making them const prevents accidental bugs, and moves them to the .rodata section so that they no longer do any false sharing; in addition with the proper debug option they are then protected against corruption.. 2005-05-01[PATCH] misc verify_area cleanupsJesper Juhl
There were still a few comments left refering to verify_area, and two functions, verify_area_skas & verify_area_tt that just wrap corresponding access_ok_skas & access_ok_tt functions, just like verify_area does for access_ok - deprecate those. There was also a few places that still used verify_area in commented-out code, fix those up to use access_ok. After applying this one there should not be anything left but finally removing verify_area completely, which will happen after a kernel release or two. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
