2012-01-07[media] dvb-bt8xx: convert printks to pr_err()Jonathan Nieder
This module does some printks with the loglevel missing. pr_err() takes care of adding the KERN_ERR tag and the module name. So we can simplify the code and add the missing printk loglevel by using it. Also add a #define pr_fmt() to make this work, and remove a few unnecessary periods at the end of messages and bump the loglevel of "Unknown bttv card type" from KERN_WARNING to KERN_ERR while at it. 2012-01-07[media] dvb-bt8xx: use dprintk for debug statementsJonathan Nieder

2012-01-06[media] dvb-bt8xx: handle errors from dvb_net_initJonathan Nieder
Clean up and error out if dvb_net_init fails (for example when running out of memory). From an audit of dvb_net_init callers, now that dvb_net_init has learned to return a nonzero value from time to time. 2012-01-06[media] dvb-bt8xx: use goto based exception handlingJonathan Nieder
Repeating the same cleanup code in each error handling path makes life unnecessarily difficult for reviewers, who much check each instance of the same copy+pasted code separately. A "goto" to the end of the function is more maintainable and conveys the intent more clearly. While we're touching this code, also lift some assignments from "if" conditionals for simplicity. No functional change intended. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Nieder <jrnieder@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2012-01-04[media] dvb: Remove ops->info.type from frontendsMauro Carvalho Chehab
Now that this field is deprecated, and core generates it for DVBv3 calls, remove it from the drivers. It also adds .delsys on the few drivers where this were missed. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] dvb: don't require a parameter for get_frontendMauro Carvalho Chehab
Just like set_frontend, use the dvb cache properties for get_frontend. This is more consistent, as both functions are now symetric. Also, at the places get_frontend is called, it makes sense to update the cache. Most of this patch were generated by this small perl script: while (<>) { $file .= $_; } if ($file =~ m/\.get_frontend\s*=\s*([\d\w_]+)/) { my $get = $1; $file =~ s/($get)(\s*\([^\,\)]+)\,\s*struct\s+dtv_frontend_properties\s*\*\s*([_\d\w]+)\)\s*\{/\1\2)\n{\n\tstruct dtv_frontend_properties *\3 = &fe->dtv_property_cache;/g; } print $file; Of course, the changes at dvb_frontend.[ch] were made by hand, as well as the changes on a few other places, where get_frontend() is called internally inside the driver. On some places, get_frontend() were just a void function. Those occurrences were removed, as the DVB core handles such cases. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] dvb-core: don't use fe_bandwidth_t on driverMauro Carvalho Chehab
Now that everybody is talking DVBv5 API dialect, using this DVBv3 macro internally is not ok. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] dvb-core: Don't pass DVBv3 parameters on tune() fopsMauro Carvalho Chehab
As all parameters are passed via DVBv5 to the frontends, there's no need to pass them again via fops. Also, most drivers weren't using it anyway. So, instead, just pass a parameter to indicate if the hardware algorithm wants the driver to re-tune or not. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] dst: convert set_fontend to use DVBv5 parametersMauro Carvalho Chehab
Instead of using dvb_frontend_parameters struct, that were designed for a subset of the supported standards, use the DVBv5 cache information. Also, fill the supported delivery systems at dvb_frontend_ops struct. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] dvb-core: add support for a DVBv5 get_frontend() callbackMauro Carvalho Chehab
Creates a DVBv5 get_frontend call, renaming the DVBv3 one to get_frontend_legacy(), while not all frontends are converted. After the conversion for all drivers, get_frontend_legacy() will be removed. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] Rename set_frontend fops to set_frontend_legacyMauro Carvalho Chehab
Passing DVBv3 parameters to set_frontend is not fun, as the core doesn't have any way to know if the driver is using the v3 or v5 parameters. So, rename the callback and add a new one to allow distinguish between a mixed v3/v5 paramenter call from a pure v5 call. After having all frontends to use the new way, the legacy call can be removed. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] tuners: remove dvb_frontend_parameters from set_params()Mauro Carvalho Chehab
This is a big patch, yet trivial: now that all tuners use the DVBv5 way to pass parameters (e. g. via fe->dtv_property_cache), the extra parameter can be removed from set_params() call. After this change, very few DVBv3 specific stuff are left at the tuners. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] dvb: remove dvb_frontend_parameters from calc_regs()Mauro Carvalho Chehab
The calc_regs() callback is used by a few frontends (mt352, nxt200x, digitv and zl10353). On all places it is called, the parameters are set by DVBv5 way. So, just use the DVBv5 struct and remove the extra parameter. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2011-12-31[media] dvb-bt8xx: use DVBv5 parameters on set_params()Mauro Carvalho Chehab
Instead of using DVBv3 parameters, rely on DVBv5 parameters to set the tuner. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

2010-10-19dvb/bt8xx: kill the big kernel lockArnd Bergmann

2010-10-15llseek: automatically add .llseek fopArnd Bergmann
All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a .llseek pointer. The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek. New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code relies on calling seek on the device file. The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle. Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window. Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic patch that does all this. ===== begin semantic patch ===== // This adds an llseek= method to all file operations, // as a preparation for making no_llseek the default. // // The rules are // - use no_llseek explicitly if we do nonseekable_open // - use seq_lseek for sequential files // - use default_llseek if we know we access f_pos // - use noop_llseek if we know we don't access f_pos, // but we still want to allow users to call lseek // @ open1 exists @ identifier nested_open; @@ nested_open(...) { <+... nonseekable_open(...) ...+> } @ open exists@ identifier open_f; identifier i, f; identifier open1.nested_open; @@ int open_f(struct inode *i, struct file *f) { <+... 2010-08-08V4L/DVB: Report supported QAM modes on bt8xxArnuschky
Here a small patch to get a TwinHan VT DST DVB-T card working with kernels >= 2.6.32. Analogously to http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/rev/0e735b509163 I had to: "Fill in the .caps field in struct dst_dvbt_ops (around line 1763) with all the supported QAM modulation methods to match the capabilities of the card as implemented in function dst_set_modulation (around line 502). Note that beginning with linux kernel version 2.6.32 the modulation method is checked (by function dvb_frontend_check_parameters in file drivers/media/dvb/dvb-core/dvb_frontend.c) and thus tuning fails if you use a modulation method that is not present in the .caps field." 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. Note that beginning with linux kernel version 2.6.32 the modulation method is checked (by function dvb_frontend_check_parameters in file drivers/media/dvb/dvb-core/dvb_frontend.c) and thus tuning fails if you use a modulation method that is not present in the .caps field. This patch has been tested on a Twinhan VP2031A DVB-C card with the 2.6.32.2 kernel. 2009-09-12V4L/DVB (12477): Use dst_type field instead of type_flagsJulia Lawall
It seems from other code that it is the dst_type field rather than the type_flags field that contains values of the form DST_TYPE_IS... The type_flags field contains values of the form DST_TYPE_HAS... The semantic match that finds this problem is as follows: (http://www.emn.fr/x-info/coccinelle/) // <smpl> @@ struct dst_state E; @@ ( *E.type_flags == \( DST_TYPE_IS_SAT\|DST_TYPE_IS_TERR\|DST_TYPE_IS_CABLE\|DST_TYPE_IS_ATSC \) | *E.type_flags != \( DST_TYPE_IS_SAT\|DST_TYPE_IS_TERR\|DST_TYPE_IS_CABLE\|DST_TYPE_IS_ATSC \) ) // </smpl> Cc: Manu Abraham <abraham.manu@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

* Remove smp_lock.h from files which don't need it (including some headers!) * Add smp_lock.h to files which do need it * Make smp_lock.h include conditional in hardirq.h It's needed only for one kernel_locked() usage which is under CONFIG_PREEMPT This will make hardirq.h inclusion cheaper for every PREEMPT=n config (which includes allmodconfig/allyesconfig, BTW) Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2009-03-30V4L/DVB (11127): Kconfig: replace all occurrences of CUSTOMIZE to CUSTOMISEMauro Carvalho Chehab
There are several Kconfig items using CUSTOMIZE. Yet, most use the English writing CUSTOMISE. This generates lots of trouble, because people sometimes type the Kbuild item different. Let's standardise every occurrence using the same syntax. The changes were generated by this small shell script: for i in `find linux -type f`; do sed s,CUSTOMIZE,CUSTOMISE,g $i >/tmp/a && mv /tmp/a $i; done Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

2008-12-16V4L/DVB (9885): drivers/media Kconfig's: fix bugzilla #12204Mauro Carvalho Chehab
When the tuner modules were moved to common/tuners, a separate customize option were added for tuners. However, the automatic selection of the tuners were still using the older option. This causes that the automatic selection to fail, if DVB_FE_CUSTOMISE is selected. Also, since those tuners are now under MEDIA_TUNER_CUSTOMIZE menu, if you unset MEDIA_TUNER_CUSTOMIZE, you can't manually select the tuners. This patch fixes this error by replacing DVB_FE_CUSTOMISE by MEDIA_TUNER_CUSTOMIZE on all places were a tuner is selected. The patch were generated by this small script: for i in `find drivers/media -name Kconfig`; do cat $i|perl -ne 's/(MEDIA_TUNER.*)DVB_FE_CUSTOMISE/\1MEDIA_TUNER_CUSTOMIZE/; print $_' >a mv a $i done Also, manually reordered the tuner entries. b2c2-flexcop, dvb/bt8xx and video/bt8xx fails to build on ARM with: __bad_udelay is specifically designed on ARM to fail when udelay is called in a bad way. arch/arm/include/asm/delay.h has this to say about __bad_udelay: /* * This function intentionally does not exist; if you see references to * it, it means that you're calling udelay() with an out of range value. * * With currently imposed limits, this means that we support a max delay * of 2000us.
