2010-08-02V4L/DVB: videobuf: Rename vmalloc fields to vaddrLaurent Pinchart
The videobuf_dmabuf and videobuf_vmalloc_memory fields have a vmalloc field to store the kernel virtual address of vmalloc'ed buffers. Rename the field to vaddr. Signed-off-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2010-08-02V4L/DVB: videobuf: Remove the videobuf_sg_dma_map/unmap functionsLaurent Pinchart
Instead of creating dirty wrappers around videobuf_dma_map/unmap that create a dummy videobuf_queue structure, modify videobuf_dma_map/unmap to take a device pointer argument and use it directly. The videobuf_sg_dma_map/unmap then become unused and can be removed. Signed-off-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2010-05-18V4L/DVB: drivers/media/video: move dereference after NULL testJulia Lawall
In quickcam_messenger.c, if the NULL test on uvd is needed, then the dereference should be after the NULL test. In vpif_display.c, std_info is initialized to the address of a structure field. This seems unlikely to be NULL. Test std_info->stdid instead. In saa7134-alsa.c, the function is only called from one place, where the chip argument has already been dereferenced. On the other hand, if it should be kept, then card should be initialized after it. A simplified version of the semantic match that detects this problem is as follows (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/): // <smpl> @match exists@ expression x, E; identifier fld; @@ * x->fld ... when != \(x = E\|&x\) * x == NULL // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Acked-by: Muralidharan Karicheri <m-karicheri2@ti.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2009-09-12V4L/DVB (12586): Update ALSA capture controls according to selected source.Oldřich Jedlička
The patch introduces new snd_saa7134_capsrc_set (code taken from snd_saa7134_capsrc_put) that updates also the ALSA capture controls during snd_card_saa7134_capture_prepare and snd_saa7134_capsrc_put. There can be much more work done in order to unify the control of the card (now the card's capture source is tuned/switched in saa7134-video.c too), but I don't have enough time. This work could be a starting point, but it can be applied as-is too (it doesn't need any further work to make it working). 2009-09-12V4L/DVB (12490): Report only 32kHz for ALSAOldřich Jedlička
There are several reasons: - SAA7133/35 uses DDEP (DemDec Easy Programming mode), which works in 32kHz only - SAA7134 for TV mode uses DemDec mode (32kHz) - Radio works in 32kHz only - When recording 48kHz from Line1/Line2, switching of capture source to TV means switching to 32kHz without any frequency translation Signed-off-by: Oldřich Jedlička <oldium.pro@seznam.cz> Acked-by: hermann pitton <hermann-pitton@arcor.de> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

2009-02-01V4L/DVB (10403): saa7134-alsa: saa7130 doesn't support digital audioMauro Carvalho Chehab
According with saa7130 public datasheet, saa7130 doesn't support digital audio. This is also confirmed by experimental tests. So, it doesn't make sense to let saa7134-alsa register for those chipsets. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

2008-06-26V4L/DVB (8026): Avoids an OOPS if dev struct can't be successfully recoveredMauro Carvalho Chehab
On some alsa versions, it seems that snd_pcm_substream_chip(substream) is returning a NULL pointer. This causes an OOPS, as reported by: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24/+bug/212271 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/212960 This patch avoids the OOPS by not letting and open() succeed. 2008-04-24[ALSA] Fix synchronize_irq() bugs, redundanciesJeff Garzik
free_irq() calls synchronize_irq() for you, so there is no need for drivers to manually do the same thing (again). Thus, calls where sync-irq immediately precedes free-irq can be simplified. However, during this audit several bugs were noticed, where free-irq is preceded by a "irq >= 0" check... but the sync-irq call is not covered by the same check. So, where sync-irq could not be eliminated completely, the missing check was added. Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
2008-01-31[ALSA] Remove sound/driver.hTakashi Iwai
This header file exists only for some hacks to adapt alsa-driver tree. It's useless for building in the kernel. Let's move a few lines in it to sound/core.h and remove it. With this patch, sound/driver.h isn't removed but has just a single compile warning to include it. This should be really killed in future. 2008-01-25V4L/DVB (6623): remove saa7134-ossAdrian Bunk
The saa7134-oss is deprecated for quite some time, it's the only remaining OSS user outside of sound/oss/, and considering how few and what kind of soundcards are left supported by OSS I hardly see any use cases left. 2007-12-11V4L/DVB (6690): saa7134: fix ignored interruptsHeikki Lindholm
The saa7134 video driver starts dropping frames when used together with the saa7134-alsa driver. Frames are dropped because when an audio event is waiting the driver simply ignores the interrupt and passes it on to the saa7134-alsa interrupt handler. The alsa interrupt handler in turn acknowledges all types of events thus clearing the pending video events as well. Fix by only masking out the audio event in the video interrupt handler and by only acknowledging the audio event in the alsa driver. 2007-12-11V4L/DVB (6666): saa7134-alsa: fix period handlingHeikki Lindholm
The period handling in saa7134-alsa is broken in two ways. First, the minimum number of periods of two does not work, because the dma is setup two periods ahead in the irq handler. Fix the minimum to four periods. Second, the code assumes that the number of periods is divisible by two, which isn't always the case on ALSA. Fix by adding a constraint. The patch below (based on your cx88 patch, but I don't really understand it) fixes mmap support in saa7134-alsa for me. Recording via mmap (arecord -M -f S16_LE -c 2 -r 32000 -D hw:1) didn't work at all before, works now, tested for at least 20 minutes (but, unfortunately, with one overrun at least 0.719 ms long). 2007-10-09V4L/DVB (6125): whitespace cleanup: replace leading spaces with tabsMichael Krufky
There were many instances of 7-space indents spread throughout the v4l-dvb tree. This patch replaces the 7-space indents with tabs. The whitespace cleaner script doesn't catch these, because it assumes that all indents are 8-space. 2007-07-18V4L/DVB (5775): Alsa fix for SAA7134 based "KNC One TV-Station DVR" cardRafał Bilski
Sound recording doesn't work for this card because ACNI and ACPF are not set before snd_card_saa7134_capture_prepare(). As a result timeout occurs. These registers aren't poked because thread never gets wake up signal. ACNI initialization is done in the thread. Sound is muted when capture stops. Shouldn't be because it may be used during TV playback. Signed-off-by: Rafal Bilski <rafalbilski@interia.pl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2006-12-10V4L/DVB (4872): Saa7134-alsa improvementsHartmut Hackmann
The change does the following: - At device open, it sets the recording source to the current input instead of LINE2. So it is no longer necessary to set the recording source with a mixer application. - Connects the mixer volume control to the input sensitivity selection of the analog sound inputs. This allows only one 6db step. Signed-off-by: Hartmut Hackmann <hartmut.hackmann@t-online.de> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2006-10-05IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t.
