2014-08-01mlx4_core: Add helper functions to support MR re-registrationMatan Barak
Add few helper functions to support a mechanism of getting an MPT, modifying it and updating the HCA with the modified object. The code takes 2 paths, one for directly changing the MPT (and sometimes its related MTTs) and another one which queries the MPT and updates the HCA via fw command SW2HW_MPT. The first path is used in native mode; the second path is slower and is used only in SRIOV. 2013-12-09mlx4_core: Roll back round robin bitmap allocation commit for CQs, SRQs, and ↵Jack Morgenstein
MPTs Commit f4ec9e9 "mlx4_core: Change bitmap allocator to work in round-robin fashion" introduced round-robin allocation (via bitmap) for all resources which allocate via a bitmap. Round robin allocation is desirable for mcgs, counters, pd's, UARs, and xrcds. These are simply numbers, with no involvement of ICM memory mapping. Round robin is required for QPs, since we had a problem with immediate reuse of a 24-bit QP number (commit f4ec9e9). However, for other resources which use the bitmap allocator and involve mapping ICM memory -- MPTs, CQs, SRQs -- round-robin is not desirable. What happens in these cases is the following: ICM memory is allocated and mapped in chunks of 256K. Since the resource allocation index goes up monotonically, the allocator will eventually require mapping a new chunk. Now, chunks are also unmapped when their reference count goes back to zero. Thus, if a single app is running and starts/exits frequently we will have the following situation: When the app starts, a new chunk must be allocated and mapped. When the app exits, the chunk reference count goes back to zero, and the chunk is unmapped and freed. Therefore, the app must pay the cost of allocation and mapping of ICM memory each time it runs (although the price is paid only when allocating the initial entry in the new chunk). For apps which allocate MPTs/SRQs/CQs and which operate as described above, this presented a performance problem. We therefore roll back the round-robin allocator modification for MPTs, CQs, SRQs. 2013-11-07net/mlx4_core: Initialize all mailbox buffers to zero before useJack Morgenstein
To guarantee that all unused fields in all FW commands for both inboxes and outboxes are zeroed out, initialize the mailbox buffer to all zeroes. This is especially important for SRIOV comm-channel virtual commands (such as QUERY_FUNC_CAP), where if new fields are added to support new features, the driver can depend on older kernels passing zeroes in these fields. In addition to zeroing out the mailbox buffer at allocation time, all (now unnecessary) calls to memset by the callers of mlx4_alloc_cmd_mailbox() are removed. 2013-11-04net/mlx4_core: Fix checking order in MR table initJack Morgenstein
In procedure mlx4_init_mr_table(), slaves should do no processing, but should return success. This initialization is hypervisor-only. However, the check for num_mpts being a power-of-2 was performed before the check to return immediately if the driver is for a slave. This resulted in spurious failures. The order of performing the checks is reversed, so that if the driver is for a slave, no processing is done and success is returned. 2013-03-07net/mlx4_core: Fix endianness bug in set_param_lJack Morgenstein
The set_param_l function assumes casting a u64 pointer to a u32 pointer allows to access the lower 32bits, but it results in writing the upper 32 bits on big endian systems. The fixed function reads the upper 32 bits of the 64 argument, and or's them with the 32 bits of the 32-bit value passed to the function. Since this is now a "read-modify-write" operation, we got many "unintialized variable" warnings which needed to be fixed as well. Reported-by: Alexander Schmidt <alexschm@de.ibm.com>. 2012-08-15mlx4_core: Fix integer overflow issues around MTT tableYishai Hadas
Fix some issues around int variables used in data structures related to memory registration. Handle int overflow in mlx4_init_icm_table by using a u64 intermediate variable and changing struct mlx4_icm_table num_obj field to be u32. Change some more fields/variables to use u32 instead of int to prevent a case where the variable becomes negative when bit 31 is set. Also subtract log_mtts_per_seg from the exponent when computing num_mtt, since its added later on in that very same code area. This and the previous commit fixes some issues which actually prevent commit db5a7a65c058 ("mlx4_core: Scale size of MTT table with system RAM") from working. Now, when the number of MTTs is scaled with the size of the RAM we can map up to 8TB. 2012-08-15mlx4_core: Allow large mlx4_buddy bitmapsYishai Hadas
mlx4_buddy_init uses kmalloc() to allocate bitmaps, which fails when the required size is beyond the max supported value (or when memory is too fragmented to handle a huge allocation). Extend this to use use vmalloc() if kmalloc() fails, and take that into account when freeing the bitmaps as well. This fixes a driver load failure when log num mtt is 26 or higher, and is a step in the direction of allowing to register huge amounts of memory on large memory systems. 2012-02-26mlx4: Enforce device max FMR maps in FMR allocEli Cohen
ConnectX devices have a limit on the number of mappings that can be done on an FMR before having to call sync_tpt. The current mlx4_ib driver reports the limit correctly in max_map_per_fmr in .query_device(), but mlx4_core doesn't check it when actually allocating FMRs. 2011-12-13mlx4_core: resource tracking for HCA resources used by guestsEli Cohen
The resource tracker is used to track usage of HCA resources by the different guests. Virtual functions (VFs) are attached to guest operating systems but resources are allocated from the same pool and are assigned to VFs. It is essential that hostile/buggy guests not be able to affect the operation of other VFs, possibly attached to other guest OSs since ConnectX firmware is not tolerant to misuse of resources. The resource tracker module associates each resource with a VF and maintains state information for the allocated object. It also defines allowed state transitions and enforces them. Relationships between resources are also referred to. For example, CQs are pointed to by QPs, so it is forbidden to destroy a CQ if a QP refers to it. ICM memory is always accessible through the primary function and hence it is allocated by the owner of the primary function. When a guest dies, an FLR is generated for all the VFs it owns and all the resources it used are freed. The tracked resource types are: QPs, CQs, SRQs, MPTs, MTTs, MACs, RES_EQs, and XRCDNs. 2011-12-13mlx4_core: mtt modifications for SRIOVJack Morgenstein
MTTs are resources which are allocated and tracked by the PF driver. In multifunction mode, the allocation and icm mapping is done in the resource tracker (later patch in this sequence). To accomplish this, we have "work" functions whose names start with "__", and "request" functions (same name, no __). If we are operating in multifunction mode, the request function actually results in comm-channel commands being sent (ALLOC_RES or FREE_RES). The PF-driver comm-channel handler will ultimately invoke the "work" (__) function and return the result. If we are not in multifunction mode, the "work" handler is invoked immediately. 2011-12-13mlx4_core: Add "native" argument to mlx4_cmd and its callers (where needed)Jack Morgenstein
For SRIOV, some Hypervisor commands can be executed directly (native = 1). Others should go through the command wrapper flow (for tracking resource usage, for example, or for changing some HCA configurations that slaves need to be notified of). This patch sets the groundwork for this capability -- adding the correct value of "native" in each case. Note that if SRIOV is not activated, this parameter has no effect.
