2011-03-29carl9170: Fix tx aggregation problems with some clientsChristian Lamparter
Some clients seem to rely upon the reception of BlockAckReqs to flush their rx reorder buffer. In order to fix aggregation for these clients carl9170 should set IEEE80211_TX_STAT_AMPDU_NO_BACK to generate a BlockAckReq if the transmission of an AMPDU subframe fails. This fixes aggregation problems with Intel 5100 Windows STAs (and maybe others as well). Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. 2011-02-25mac80211: make tx() operation return voidJohannes Berg
The return value of the tx operation is commonly misused by drivers, leading to errors. All drivers will drop frames if they fail to TX the frame, and they must also properly manage the queues (if they didn't, mac80211 would already warn). Removing the ability for drivers to return a BUSY value also allows significant cleanups of the TX TX handling code in mac80211. Note that this also fixes a bug in ath9k_htc, the old "return -1" there was wrong. 2011-01-19mac80211: track receiver's aggregation reorder buffer sizeJohannes Berg
The aggregation code currently doesn't implement the buffer size negotiation. It will always request a max buffer size (which is fine, if a little pointless, as the mac80211 code doesn't know and might just use 0 instead), but if the peer requests a smaller size it isn't possible to honour this request. In order to fix this, look at the buffer size in the addBA response frame, keep track of it and pass it to the driver in the ampdu_action callback when called with the IEEE80211_AMPDU_TX_OPERATIONAL action. That way the driver can limit the number of subframes in aggregates appropriately. Note that this doesn't fix any drivers apart from the addition of the new argument -- they all need to be updated separately to use this variable! 2011-01-04carl9170: fix usb pm suspend->resume woesChristian Lamparter
This patch revamps some common code-paths which are shared between (re-)initialization and suspend/resume subroutines. It also adds some helpful comments about quirks and associated difficulties. It's quite big, but it should fix #25382: <https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25382> And hopefully the code is robust enough to deal with all possible suspend/resume scenarios without requiring the user to do any sort of manual and possibly dangerous work. 2011-01-04carl9170: reduce channel change delayChristian Lamparter
By removing two "safety" msleeps (and an echo nop), the channel change delay is effectively halved. Previously, the delay could be as long as 260 ms and the device could not go off-channel without risking to miss the next DTIM beacon [interval ~307 ms]. 2010-11-15carl9170: tx path reviewChristian Lamparter
This patch fixes a few shortcomings in the tx path. * move temp. ampdu_[ack]_len out of txinfo->pad. * fix WARN_ON from tx.c:line 300 when tx_ampdu_queue fails to queue the frame. * In tx_prepare, we already have a local pointer to the station's ieee80211_sta struct. * remove a second !sta check, tx_prepare already takes care of that. 2010-11-15carl9170: configurable beacon ratesChristian Lamparter
Previously, the beacon rate was fixed to either: * 1Mb/s [2.4GHz band] * 6Mb/s [5GHz band] This limitation has been addressed and now the beacon rate is selected by ieee80211_tx_info's rate control info, almost like any ordinary data frame. 2010-11-15carl9170: stop stale uplink BA sessionsChristian Lamparter
This patch fixes a possible lengthy stall if the device is operating as an experimental 11n AP and an STA [during heavy txrx action] suddenly signalized to go off-channel (old NetworkManager), or (sleep - which is unlikely, because then it wouldn't be *active* at all!?). Because the driver has to manage the BA Window, the sudden PSM transition can leave active uplink BA sessions to the STA in a bad state and a proper cleanup is needed. 2010-11-15carl9170: fix spurious restart due to high latencyChristian Lamparter
RX Stress tests of unidirectional bulk traffic with bitrates of up to 220Mbit/s have revealed that the fatal-event recovery logic [which was solely triggered by an out-of-rx-buffer situation] is too aggressive. The new method now "pings" the device and then decides - based on the response - whenever a restart is needed or not. 2010-11-15carl9170: import hw/fw header updatesChristian Lamparter
This patch imports all shared header changes from carl9170fw.git. * add some strategic __aligned(4). This allows the compiler generate optimized code for architectures which can't access (unaligned/packed) data efficiently. ("ath9k_hw: optimize all descriptor access functions") * add a forgotten __CARL9170FW__ ifdef around a private firmware-internal struct. * GET_VAL macro helper Very useful for extracting data out of the bit-packed PHY registers. * cosmetic changes e.g.: _CCA_MINCCA_ to just _CCA_MIN_. * version bump 1.8.8.3 -> 1.9.0. 2010-10-25carl9170: fix memory leak issue in async cmd macro wrappersChristian Lamparter
This patch continues where the previous commit: "carl9170: fix async command buffer leak" left off. Similar to carl9170_reboot/carl9170_powersave, the carl9170_async_regwrite* macros would leak the temporary command buffer, if __carl9170_exec_cmd fails to upload the command to the device. 2010-10-11carl9170: A-MPDU frame type filterChristian Lamparter
In the past, carl9170 has been plagued by mysterious ghosts. e.g.: wlan4: deauthenticated from 02:04:d8:3c:ac:c1 (Reason: 0) Apparently, the AP sent us a bogus deauthentication notification. But upon closer inspection the "management frame" turned out to be a corrupted scrap of an unsuccessful A-MPDU. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2010-10-11carl9170: remove stale rx error pathChristian Lamparter
The total/fatal error bit was erroneously prefixed with AR9170_RX_ERROR instead of AR9170_RX_STATUS. Luckily, the hardware specification confirmed that the 0x80 flag will never be set for mac->error. So, it was always just a dead branch. This patch also imports the latest version of shared wlan.h header from the firmware git. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2010-10-11carl9170: common error path for bad framesChristian Lamparter

2010-10-05carl9170: support firmware-based rx filterChristian Lamparter
The hardware rx-filter was essentially disabled, because of a serve, yet unidentifiable problem with iwlagn. Due to these circumstances the driver and mac80211 were left with the job of filtering. This is very unfortunate and has proven to be expensive in terms of latency, memory and load. Therefore the new 1.8.8.3 firmware introduces a flexible filtering infrastructure which allows the driver to offload some of the checks (FCS & PLCP crc check, RA match, control frame filter, etc...) whenever possible. Note: This patch also includes all changes to the shared headers files since the inclusion. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2010-09-28carl9170: interrupt urbs must not set URB_ZERO_PACKETChristian Lamparter
This patch fixes a bug in the driver which was exposed by CONFIG_USB_DEBUG: "usb 1-1.6.3: BOGUS urb flags, 40 --> 0" The transfer flag "URB_ZERO_PACKET" is only valid for bulk urbs. 2010-09-28carl9170: revamp carl9170_tx_prepareChristian Lamparter
David Miller complained about the driver's excessive use of variables in __packed structs. While I did not fully agree with his sole "performance" argument on all accounts. I do see some room for improvement in hot-paths on architectures without an efficient access to unaligned elements. This first patch (dare I say?) optimizes an important tx hot-path in the driver: carl9170_tx_prepare. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. 2010-09-28carl9170: fix WARN_ON triggered by Broadcom HT STAsChristian Lamparter
Broadcom's Windows driver for the 4313 advertises an ampdu density of 7 => 16 us. The AR9170 MAC on the other hand only supports densities up to 8 us. This patch removes the noisy WARN_ON, because there is nothing we can do about it. Signed-off-by: Christian Lamparter <chunkeey@googlemail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2010-09-28carl9170: fix tx_ampdu_upload counterChristian Lamparter
tx_ampdu_upload was not decreased when an a-MPDU frame had to be kicked out from the tx_pending queues. This broke ampdu aggregation, because the scheduler waits until tx_ampdu_upload drops to zero, before making the next aggregate. 2010-09-28carl9170: remove lost-frame workaroundChristian Lamparter
This patch removes some cruft, which survived the RFC review phase. Originally, carl9170_tx_ampdu_queue erroneously dropped a lot of frames. As a result the ampdu scheduler bogged down quite frequently and the affected BA session timed out. However this bug has been fixed and the WA and its debugfs counter is no longer useful.
