2013-01-30s390/virtio-ccw: Fix setup_vq error handling.Cornelia Huck
virtio_ccw_setup_vq() failed to unwind correctly on errors. In particular, it failed to delete the virtqueue on errors, leading to list corruption when virtio_ccw_del_vqs() iterated over a virtqueue that had not been added to the vcdev's list. Fix this with redoing the error unwinding in virtio_ccw_setup_vq(), using a single path for all errors. 2013-01-08s390/irq: remove split irq fields from /proc/statHeiko Carstens
Now that irq sum accounting for /proc/stat's "intr" line works again we have the oddity that the sum field (first field) contains only the sum of the second (external irqs) and third field (I/O interrupts). The reason for that is that these two fields are already sums of all other fields. So if we would sum up everything we would count every interrupt twice. This is broken since the split interrupt accounting was merged two years ago: 052ff461c8427629aee887ccc27478fc7373237c "[S390] irq: have detailed statistics for interrupt types". To fix this remove the split interrupt fields from /proc/stat's "intr" line again and only have them in /proc/interrupts. This restores the old behaviour, seems to be the only sane fix and mimics a behaviour from other architectures where /proc/interrupts also contains more than /proc/stat's "intr" line does. 2012-09-28virtio: support reserved vqsMichael S. Tsirkin
virtio network device multiqueue support reserves vq 3 for future use (useful both for future extensions and to make it pretty - this way receive vqs have even and transmit - odd numbers). Make it possible to skip initialization for specific vq numbers by specifying NULL for name. Document this usage as well as (existing) NULL callback. 2012-07-20s390/comments: unify copyright messages and remove file namesHeiko Carstens
Remove the file name from the comment at top of many files. In most cases the file name was wrong anyway, so it's rather pointless. Also unify the IBM copyright statement. We did have a lot of sightly different statements and wanted to change them one after another whenever a file gets touched. However that never happened. 2012-03-11[S390] irq: external interrupt code passingHeiko Carstens
The external interrupt handlers have a parameter called ext_int_code. Besides the name this paramter does not only contain the ext_int_code but in addition also the "cpu address" (POP) which caused the external interrupt. To make the code a bit more obvious pass a struct instead so the called function can easily distinguish between external interrupt code and cpu address. The cpu address field however is named "subcode" since some external interrupt sources do not pass a cpu address but a different parameter (or none at all). 2012-01-12virtio: harsher barriers for rpmsg.Rusty Russell
We were cheating with our barriers; using the smp ones rather than the real device ones. That was fine, until rpmsg came along, which is used to talk to a real device (a non-SMP CPU). Unfortunately, just putting back the real barriers (reverting d57ed95d) causes a performance regression on virtio-pci. In particular, Amos reports netbench's TCP_RR over virtio_net CPU utilization increased up to 35% while throughput went down by up to 14%. By comparison, this branch is in the noise. 2011-05-26[S390] irq: fix service signal external interrupt handlingHeiko Carstens
Interrupt sources like pfault, sclp, dasd_diag and virtio all use the service signal external interrupt subclass mask in control register 0 to enable and disable the corresponding interrupt. Because no reference counting is implemented each subsystem thinks it is the only user of subclass and sets and clears the bit like it wants. This leads to case that unloading the dasd diag module under z/VM causes both sclp and pfault interrupts to be masked. The result will be locked up system sooner or later. Fix this by introducing a new way to set (register) and clear (unregister) the service signal subclass mask bit in cr0. Also convert all drivers. 2011-04-29[S390] irqstats: fix counting of pfault, dasd diag and virtio irqsHeiko Carstens
pfault, dasd diag and virtio all use the same external interrupt number. The respective interrupt handlers decide by the subcode if they are meant to handle the interrupt. Counting is currently done before looking at the subcode which means each handler counts an interrupt even if it is not handling it. 2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-06-12virtio: find_vqs/del_vqs virtio operationsMichael S. Tsirkin
This replaces find_vq/del_vq with find_vqs/del_vqs virtio operations, and updates all drivers. This is needed for MSI support, because MSI needs to know the total number of vectors upfront. 2009-06-12virtio: add names to virtqueue struct, mapping from devices to queues.Rusty Russell
Add a linked list of all virtqueues for a virtio device: this helps for debugging and is also needed for upcoming interface change. Also, add a "name" field for clearer debug messages. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>

2008-12-30kvm-s390: implement config_changed for virtio on s390Christian Borntraeger
This patch implements config_changed for the s390 virtio transport. We use the least significant bit of the interrupt parameter field to decide, if this interrupt should call the virtio virtqueue callback or the config_changed callback. This method is compatible with old host and guest code. Old 64 bit guests will not check the bit and trigger a harmless additional vring_interrupt call. Old host code will never set this bit, this is also safe. This patch also takes care of a potential future 31 bit virtio transport for s390. On 31 bit _LC_PFAULT_INTPARM and __LC_EXT_PARAMS are identical. We exploit the alignment of the token and fold the change bit into the lsb of the token itself. 2008-11-14[S390] kvm_s390: Fix oops in virtio device detection with "mem="Christian Borntraeger
The current virtio model on s390 has the descriptor page above the main memory. The guest virtio detection will oops if the mem= parameter is used to reduce/change the memory size. We have to use real_memory_size instead of max_pfn to detect the virtio descriptor pages. Signed-off-by: Christian Borntraeger <borntraeger@de.ibm.com>

2008-07-27KVM: s390: Fix guest kconfigChristian Borntraeger
Cornelia Huck noticed that a modular virtio without kvm guest support leads to a build error in the s390 virtio transport: CONFIG_VIRTIO=m leads to ERROR: "vmem_add_mapping" [drivers/s390/kvm/kvm_virtio.ko] undefined! ERROR: "max_pfn" [drivers/s390/kvm/kvm_virtio.ko] undefined! ERROR: "vmem_remove_mapping" [drivers/s390/kvm/kvm_virtio.ko] undefined! The virtio transport only works with kvm guest support and only as a builtin. Lets change the build process of drivers/s390/kvm/kvm_virtio.c to depend on kvm guest support, which is also a bool. CONFIG_S390_GUEST already selects CONFIG_VIRTIO, that should prevent CONFIG_S390_GUEST=y CONFIG_VIRTIO=n situations. 2008-07-25virtio: Add transport feature handling stub for virtio_ring.Rusty Russell

2008-07-25virtio: Rename set_features to finalize_featuresRusty Russell
Rather than explicitly handing the features to the lower-level, we just hand the virtio_device and have it set the features. This make it clear that it has the chance to manipulate the features of the device at this point (and that all feature negotiation is already done).
