2006-03-28[PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven
This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-03-27[PATCH] uml: fix hostfs stack corruptionJeff Dike
Noted by Oleg Drokin: We initialized an extra slot of struct kstatfs.spare, sometimes causing stack corruption. 2005-12-29[PATCH] uml: hostfs - fix possible PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT overflowsPaolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso
Prevent page->index << PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT from overflowing. There is a casting there, but was added without care, so it's at the wrong place. Note the extra parens around the shift - "+" is higher precedence than "<<", leading to a GCC warning which saved all us. 2005-12-29[PATCH] Hostfs: remove unused varPaolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso
Trivial removal of unused variable from this file - doesn't even change the generated assembly code, in fact (gcc should trigger a warning for unused value here). Signed-off-by: Paolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso <blaisorblade@yahoo.it> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-09[PATCH] changing CONFIG_LOCALVERSION rebuilds too much, for no good reasonOlaf Hering
This patch removes almost all inclusions of linux/version.h. The 3 #defines are unused in most of the touched files. A few drivers use the simple KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) macro, which is unfortunatly in linux/version.h. There are also lots of #ifdef for long obsolete kernels, this was not touched. In a few places, the linux/version.h include was move to where the LINUX_VERSION_CODE was used. quilt vi `find * -type f -name "*.[ch]"|xargs grep -El '(UTS_RELEASE|LINUX_VERSION_CODE|KERNEL_VERSION|linux/version.h)'|grep -Ev '(/(boot|coda|drm)/|~$)'` search pattern: /UTS_RELEASE\|LINUX_VERSION_CODE\|KERNEL_VERSION\|linux\/\(utsname\|version\).h Signed-off-by: Olaf Hering <olh@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-11-07[PATCH] kfree cleanup: fsJesper Juhl
This is the fs/ part of the big kfree cleanup patch. Remove pointless checks for NULL prior to calling kfree() in fs/. Signed-off-by: Jesper Juhl <jesper.juhl@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-09-30[PATCH] uml: remove empty hostfs_truncate methodPaolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso
Calling truncate() on hostfs spits a kernel warning "Something isn't implemented here", but it still works fine. Indeed, hostfs i_op->truncate doesn't do anything. But hostfs_setattr() -> set_attr() correctly detects ATTR_SIZE and calls truncate() on the host. So we should be safe (using ftruncate() may be better, in case the file is unlinked on the host, but we aren't sure to have the file open for writing, and reopening it would cause the same races; plus nobody should expect UML to be so careful). So, the warning is wrong, because the current implementation is working. Al, am I correct, and can the warning be therefore dropped? 2005-09-09[PATCH] update filesystems for new delete_inode behaviorMark Fasheh
Update the file systems in fs/ implementing a delete_inode() callback to call truncate_inode_pages(). One implementation note: In developing this patch I put the calls to truncate_inode_pages() at the very top of those filesystems delete_inode() callbacks in order to retain the previous behavior. I'm guessing that some of those could probably be optimized. 2005-07-28[PATCH] uml: implement hostfs syncingPaolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso

2005-07-14[PATCH] uml: hostfs: unuse ROOT_DEVPaolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso
Minimal patch removing uses of ROOT_DEV; next patch unexports it. I've opposed this, but I've planned to reintroduce the functionality without using ROOT_DEV. 2005-05-28[PATCH] uml: remove 2_5compat.hJeff Dike
Remove old useless header that was used in Ye Olde Times during 2.4->2.5 porting to abstract differences. It's definitions are no more used anyway, so let's finally kill it. 2005-05-01[PATCH] uml - hostfs: avoid buffersPaolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso
Use this: .set_page_dirty = __set_page_dirty_nobuffers, We already dropped the inclusion of <linux/buffer_head.h>, and we don't have a backing block device for this FS. "Without having looked at it, I'm sure that hostfs does not use buffer_heads. So setting your ->set_page_dirty a_op to point at __set_page_dirty_nobuffers() is a reasonable thing to do - it'll provide a slight speedup." This speedup is one less spinlock held and one less conditional branch, which isn't bad. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
