2007-02-03NFS: Remove nfs_readpage_sync()Trond Myklebust
It makes no sense to maintain 2 parallel systems for reading in pages. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
2006-12-08[PATCH] nfs: change uses of f_{dentry,vfsmnt} to use f_pathJosef "Jeff" Sipek
Change all the uses of f_{dentry,vfsmnt} to f_path.{dentry,mnt} in the nfs client code. Signed-off-by: Josef "Jeff" Sipek <jsipek@cs.sunysb.edu> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-12-06NFS: Remove nfs_writepage_sync()Trond Myklebust
Maintaining two parallel ways of doing synchronous writes is rather pointless. This patch gets rid of the legacy nfs_writepage_sync(), and replaces it with the faster asynchronous writes. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>

2006-09-22NFS: Use cached page as buffer for NFS symlink requestsChuck Lever
Now that we have a copy of the symlink path in the page cache, we can pass a struct page down to the XDR routines instead of a string buffer. Test plan: Connectathon, all NFS versions. Signed-off-by: Chuck Lever <chuck.lever@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
2006-09-22NFS: Fix double d_drop in nfs_instantiate() error pathChuck Lever
If the LOOKUP or GETATTR in nfs_instantiate fail, nfs_instantiate will do a d_drop before returning. But some callers already do a d_drop in the case of an error return. Make certain we do only one d_drop in all error paths. This issue was introduced because over time, the symlink proc API diverged slightly from the create/mkdir/mknod proc API. To prevent other coding mistakes of this type, change the symlink proc API to be more like create/mkdir/mknod and move the nfs_instantiate call into the symlink proc routines so it is used in exactly the same way for create, mkdir, mknod, and symlink. Test plan: Connectathon, all versions of NFS. Signed-off-by: Chuck Lever <chuck.lever@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
2006-09-22NFS: Eliminate client_sys in favour of cl_rpcclientDavid Howells
Eliminate nfs_server::client_sys in favour of nfs_client::cl_rpcclient as we only really need one per server that we're talking to since it doesn't have any security on it. The retransmission management variables are also moved to the common struct as they're required to set up the cl_rpcclient connection. The NFS2/3 client and client_acl connections are thenceforth derived by cloning the cl_rpcclient connection and post-applying the authorisation flavour. The code for setting up the initial common connection has been moved to client.c as nfs_create_rpc_client(). All the NFS program definition tables are also moved there as that's where they're now required rather than super.c. 2006-06-09NFS: Split fs/nfs/inode.cDavid Howells
As fs/nfs/inode.c is rather large, heterogenous and unwieldy, the attached patch splits it up into a number of files: (*) fs/nfs/inode.c Strictly inode specific functions. (*) fs/nfs/super.c Superblock management functions for NFS and NFS4, normal access, clones and referrals. The NFS4 superblock functions _could_ move out into a separate conditionally compiled file, but it's probably not worth it as there're so many common bits. (*) fs/nfs/namespace.c Some namespace-specific functions have been moved here. (*) fs/nfs/nfs4namespace.c NFS4-specific namespace functions (this could be merged into the previous file). This file is conditionally compiled. (*) fs/nfs/internal.h Inter-file declarations, plus a few simple utility functions moved from fs/nfs/inode.c. Additionally, all the in-.c-file externs have been moved here, and those files they were moved from now includes this file. For the most part, the functions have not been changed, only some multiplexor functions have changed significantly. I've also: (*) Added some extra banner comments above some functions. (*) Rearranged the function order within the files to be more logical and better grouped (IMO), though someone may prefer a different order. (*) Reduced the number of #ifdefs in .c files. (*) Added missing __init and __exit directives. Signed-Off-By: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>
2006-03-20NFS: Cleanup of NFS read codeTrond Myklebust
Same callback hierarchy inversion as for the NFS write calls. This patch is not strictly speaking needed by the O_DIRECT code, but avoids confusing differences between the asynchronous read and write code. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
2006-03-20NFS: Cleanup of NFS write code in preparation for asynchronous o_directTrond Myklebust
This patch inverts the callback hierarchy for NFS write calls. Instead of having the NFSv2/v3/v4-specific code set up the RPC callback ops, we allow the original caller to do so. This allows for more flexibility w.r.t. how to set up and tear down the nfs_write_data structure while still allowing the NFSv3/v4 code to perform error handling. The greater flexibility is needed by the asynchronous O_DIRECT code, which wants to be able to hold on to the original nfs_write_data structures after the WRITE RPC call has completed in order to be able to replay them if the COMMIT call determines that the server has rebooted. 2006-03-20SUNRPC: eliminate rpc_call()Chuck Lever
Clean-up: replace rpc_call() helper with direct call to rpc_call_sync. This makes NFSv2 and NFSv3 synchronous calls more computationally efficient, and reduces stack consumption in functions that used to invoke rpc_call more than once. Test plan: Compile kernel with CONFIG_NFS enabled. Connectathon on NFS version 2, version 3, and version 4 mount points. 2006-01-06NFS: Send valid mode bits to the serverTrond Myklebust
inode->i_mode contains a lot more than just the mode bits. Make sure that we mask away this extra stuff in SETATTR calls to the server. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
2006-01-06RPC: Clean up RPC task structureTrond Myklebust
Shrink the RPC task structure. Instead of storing separate pointers for task->tk_exit and task->tk_release, put them in a structure. Also pass the user data pointer as a parameter instead of passing it via task->tk_calldata. This enables us to nest callbacks. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>

2005-10-27NFS: Don't let nfs_end_data_update() clobber attribute update informationTrond Myklebust
Since we almost always call nfs_end_data_update() after we called nfs_refresh_inode(), we now end up marking the inode metadata as needing revalidation immediately after having updated it. This patch rearranges things so that we mark the inode as needing revalidation _before_ we call nfs_refresh_inode() on those operations that need it. 2005-10-18NFSv4: Eliminate nfsv4 open race...Trond Myklebust

2005-08-16[PATCH] NFS: Ensure we always update inode->i_mode when doing O_EXCL createsTrond Myklebust
When the client performs an exclusive create and opens the file for writing, a Netapp filer will first create the file using the mode 01777. It does this since an NFSv3/v4 exclusive create cannot immediately set the mode bits. The 01777 mode then gets put into the inode->i_mode. After the file creation is successful, we then do a setattr to change the mode to the correct value (as per the NFS spec). The problem is that nfs_refresh_inode() no longer updates inode->i_mode, so the latter retains the 01777 mode. A bit later, the VFS notices this, and calls remove_suid(). This of course now resets the file mode to inode->i_mode & 0777. Hey presto, the file mode on the server is now magically changed to 0777. Duh... 2005-06-22[PATCH] NFS: Allow NFS versions to support different sets of inode operations.J. Bruce Fields
ACL support will require supporting additional inode operations in v4 (getxattr, setxattr, listxattr). This patch allows different protocol versions to support different inode operations by adding a file_inode_ops to the nfs_rpc_ops (to match the existing dir_inode_ops). Signed-off-by: J. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
