2007-10-18bitops: introduce lock opsNick Piggin
Introduce test_and_set_bit_lock / clear_bit_unlock bitops with lock semantics. Convert all architectures to use the generic implementation. 2007-10-17Remove dma_cache_(wback|inv|wback_inv) functionsRalf Baechle
dma_cache_(wback|inv|wback_inv) were the earliest attempt on a generalized cache managment API for I/O purposes. Originally it was basically the raw MIPS low level cache API exported to the entire world. The API has suffered from a lack of documentation, was not very widely used unlike it's more modern brothers and can easily be replaced by dma_cache_sync. So remove it rsp. turn the surviving bits back into an arch private API, as discussed on linux-arch. 2007-10-17remove include/asm-*/ipc.hAdrian Bunk

2007-10-17remove strict ansi check from __u64 in asm/types.hOlaf Hering
Remove the __STRICT_ANSI__ check from the __u64/__s64 declaration on 32bit targets. GCC can be made to warn about usage of long long types with ISO C90 (-ansi), but only with -pedantic. You can write this in a way that even then it doesn't cause warnings, namely by: #ifdef __GNUC__ __extension__ typedef __signed__ long long __s64; __extension__ typedef unsigned long long __u64; #endif The __extension__ keyword in front of this switches off any pedantic warnings for this expression. DECLARE_MUTEX_LOCKED was used for semaphores used as completions and we've got rid of them. Well, except for one in libusual that the maintainer explicitly wants to keep as semaphore. 2007-07-11PCI: Use a weak symbol for the empty version of pcibios_add_platform_entries()Michael Ellerman

2007-05-08Clean up mostly unused IOSPACE macrosDavid Gibson
Most architectures defined three macros, MK_IOSPACE_PFN(), GET_IOSPACE() and GET_PFN() in pgtable.h. 2007-05-08move die notifier handling to common codeChristoph Hellwig
This patch moves the die notifier handling to common code. Previous various architectures had exactly the same code for it. Note that the new code is compiled unconditionally, this should be understood as an appel to the other architecture maintainer to implement support for it aswell (aka sprinkling a notify_die or two in the proper place) arm had a notifiy_die that did something totally different, I renamed it to arm_notify_die as part of the patch and made it static to the file it's declared and used at. avr32 used to pass slightly less information through this interface and I brought it into line with the other architectures. 2007-05-02[PATCH] x86: PARAVIRT: add hooks to intercept mm creation and destructionJeremy Fitzhardinge
Add hooks to allow a paravirt implementation to track the lifetime of an mm. Paravirtualization requires three hooks, but only two are needed in common code. They are: arch_dup_mmap, which is called when a new mmap is created at fork arch_exit_mmap, which is called when the last process reference to an mm is dropped, which typically happens on exit and exec. The third hook is activate_mm, which is called from the arch-specific activate_mm() macro/function, and so doesn't need stub versions for other architectures. It's called when an mm is first used. 2007-02-11[PATCH] consolidate line discipline number definitionsTilman Schmidt
The line discipline numbers N_* are currently defined for each architecture individually, but (except for a seeming mistake) identically, in asm/termios.h. There is no obvious reason why these numbers should be architecture specific, nor any apparent relationship with the termios structure. The total number of these, NR_LDISCS, is defined in linux/tty.h anyway. So I propose the following patch which moves the definitions of the individual line disciplines to linux/tty.h too. Three of these numbers (N_MASC, N_PROFIBUS_FDL, and N_SMSBLOCK) are unused in the current kernel, but the patch still keeps the complete set in case there are plans to use them yet. The last in-kernel user of errno is gone, so we should remove the definition and everything referring to it. This also removes the now-unused lib/execve.c file that was introduced earlier. Also remove every trace of __KERNEL_SYSCALLS__ that still remained in the kernel. 2006-09-26[PATCH] Standardize pxx_page macrosDave McCracken
One of the changes necessary for shared page tables is to standardize the pxx_page macros. pte_page and pmd_page have always returned the struct page associated with their entry, while pte_page_kernel and pmd_page_kernel have returned the kernel virtual address. pud_page and pgd_page, on the other hand, return the kernel virtual address. Shared page tables needs pud_page and pgd_page to return the actual page structures. There are very few actual users of these functions, so it is simple to standardize their usage. Since this is basic cleanup, I am submitting these changes as a standalone patch. Per Hugh Dickins' comments about it, I am also changing the pxx_page_kernel macros to pxx_page_vaddr to clarify their meaning. 2006-09-12sh64: Trivial build fixes.Paul Mundt
While we've been sorting out the toolchain fiasco, some of the code has suffered a bit of bitrot. Building with GCC4 also brings up some more build warnings. Trivial fixes for both issues. Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>
